Yeah, he changed the whole Gollum chapter in The Hobbit to better match The Lord of the Rings (in the original, Gollum willingly bets the Ring).

... but he gave one of the worst performances I've ever seen as the Emperor in ROTS and the 2004 addition to ESB.  Just ... awful.

 I disagree, they wanted to show the contrast between mild mannered Palpatine and Maniacal Sidious. How could you even hate his performance in the opera house?

I was fine with the opera house.  But the "maniacal" Sidious (especially during the fight with Yoda) is just awful.
