How does Star Wars compare?

What I have in mind is this:

My guess is that Star Wars would be considered by most of us to be the best entertainment franchise around. However, I could be wrong, and that's where this thread comes in. I want to know -

1) - is one of the Star Wars films your favorite single film? If not, where on your list does it rank?

2) - how you compare the OUT to other sequalized film franchises such as Rocky, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, James Bond (just to name a few). Is the OUT better than all of them? If not, what do you prefer? And how does the six-film saga compare with those other franchises? How does the PT compare?

3) - did any other entertainment experience ever impact you in the same, or approximately the same, way that Star Wars did?

Here are my answers.

1) Star Wars (Episode IV for Lucasites) has been and remains my favorite film of all time. I really can't see that changing at this point.

2) The OUT is the best of the lot. Second on my list would be the Spider-Man series so far. It's been great, and I'm really looking forward to 3. As for the "Star Wars Saga", it really doesn't exist for me. I think the attempt to connect the two trilogies ultimately failed, and the PT as an isolated trilogy works much better. The OT is made poorer for its ties to the so-called saga.

3) Final Fantasy VII was an amazing experience for me. For a time, I could honestly say it was better than nearly every movie I had seen to that point. Of course, in due time I would revise that opinion, but the story was great, the characters were memorable and worth caring about, the music was tremendous, and there were many moving moments throughout. Douglas Adams Hitchiker's Guide series was also a wonderful experience. Adams was such a skilled phrase player - he mined hilarity from a lot of unexpected places. The story never would stand still, and as was the case for Star Wars and Final Fantasy VII, I cared a lot about the characters involved. And I'm predicting that effective use of character will be the common theme for most, if not all, of our answers in regard to this category.

Eager to see your answers!

Great idea for a thread, cause I am always interest in HOW MUCH a SW fan a person is, and I guess I am as diehard as they come.

1. My favorite movie of all-time has always been The Original SW, cause nothing beats those two hours, as I have watched that movie hundreds of times in my life, and it never gets old.

2. The OOT is my favorite trilogy of all-time, mostly cause ESB is the greatest sequel ever made. No trilogy comes close to the 1-2 punch of SW-ESB in terms of quality, and due to the greatness of those films, ROTJ gets as much slack as any OK sequel can get cause i have to have closure to finish the story.

3. As for impact, nothing to this day has come close to the OOT. I loved BTTF, Superman, and Indiana Jones growing up, but they just aren't on the same level as a SW movie, though are still great for the genre. There is just something about the OOT that never gets old, and I have never tired of those 3 movies in terms of replay value. A friend of mine were talking the other day about how those movies just stayed with ya as a little kid, and weren't just the flavor of the month like so many blockbusters today. Maybe it is the characters? Maybe it is the uplifting story and how any one of us could be Luke, Leia, or Han? Maybe it is the clear line between good and evil that the movies portray? Or maybe cause they are just great fucking movies? I do know this, I still watch them alot, and after witnessing the PT hit the screens the past 8 years, I have come to appreciate the OOT alot more now, cause Lucas had me ready to love a whole new trilogy, and he couldn't do it, in someways the OOT is so good, I dont' think he ever had a chance.

Nothing ever compares to Star Wars.Bottom line.
I still, thirty years on,haven't recovered from the blockade runner storming onto the screen followed by that destroyer!I mean, seriously,I'm well into my thirties now and I collect props from the films and every time I get a new piece I just go mad like a kid again.Same goes for every time I watch the original Star Wars. There is always a moment, and it differs from viewing to viewing, that just makes you feel all wide-eyed and blown-away again. What other movie can claim that?
Star Wars holds a place in my heart that no other movie could even come close to touching.Luke was,is and forever shall be my total fucking hero. The force will be with you always indeed

Star wars is, after careful thought, my favorite trilogy of all time. My only problem is getting a good DVD of it, so I almost never get to watch it save for VHS. the LOTR trilogy is a very close second with me and in videogames it has to be the megaman X "trilogy" for the SNES. Since I first saw the OOT on VHS, probably my best experience in the cinema was with the release of LOTR in '01-'03.

1) I don't know if any single SW film is my favorite (but if I really had to choose, then it'd be TESB), because I like the whole original trilogy and each of them has their pros. But OT is The best and I don't compare other films to it - because there really isn't a race between them.

2) I like the first Jurassic Park very much and it's my favorite movie after SW trilogy. It kinda has its own world, too, like SW has. The sequels suck, though.

3) Nope, I don't think so.

1. ESB is up there with some of my other favorites like Casablanca, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Godfather, The Shawshank Redemption, Lawrence of Arabia, The Good, the Bad & the Ugly, The 400 Blows, Once Upon a Time in the West, etc.

2. Well, I really love the first two SW films. Beyond that, it's still a pretty entertaining bunch of films (even the prequels!). As far as comparisons to other film series go, LOTR and Indy are up there with SW for me. The Godfather is great as well (I even like Part 3). And Back to the Future is a great piece of entertainment too (though I think the original is by far the best of the bunch). James Bond is a bit tougher to classify since beyond the first few, they have very little to do with one another. Still, I'd say at least half of the Bond flicks are good. Harry Potter is fun too.

3. LOTR was pretty big for me. But maybe that has more to do with the fact that I was born after ROTJ and wasn't introduced to SW until I was about 8. The SW prequels were a little disappointing, so LOTR and other franchises helped fill the void. Probably the most excitement I get from SW nowadays is learning about how they were made, the development of the ideas, etc.

1) It’s entirely possible that Star Wars is my favorite single film. I have a top 5 list, but picking a single favorite film of all time seems impossible. Mood\weather\time of day\time of year\etc are all factors as to what I want to watch. All speak to me in some way. All transport me.

2) I’m not a big fan of sequels\serials. I’ve not really ever seen any that I think improve on (or even match) the magic of the original. I see the story as an adventure and I don’t want to know what happened before or after. That’s what imagination is for. I don’t need all the blanks filled in. Those blanks are what make up the emotion – the feelings – the mystery - the adventure.

Exception – I’m a huge James Bond nerd. I think that particular franchise can’t be touched in terms of longevity\staying true to the vision\acting\stories\etc. There are a few clunkers, but none are unwatchable or put the fans at odds with each other the way Star Wars has.

3) Nothing moved me or transported me the way Star Wars did. I was in another world, millions of miles from home every time I sat in the theater for it. A true outer space adventure. It was a wonderful time to be 15.
