Sounds good. Now I'm not sure how much coordination is fair. Should I be able to tell you specific moves and vice versa, should we just provide generalized suggestions and warnings, or should we just coordinate as best we can by virtue of movement without revealing our thoughts? It's up to you guys.

I have no problem with you coordinating your attacks so long as everything is discussed openly in this thread. My spies should be able to read your mail.

I agree completely. No private correspondence will take place, and no takebacks.
So Ric, I think my first suggestion might be a trade of bishops to allow them greater mobility. If you are willing to move your pawn so we can do that, we can coordinate our dropped bishops more effectively against your papa. ;)
That said, I do recommend some defense of your king.

I definitely agree about the bishops. I find that they aren't terribly effective in this game, unlike other shogi variants. P13pq-12op
Yes indeed, the bishops only cover 1/3 of the hexes on this board rather than 1/2 of the squares of square board. Meanwhile rooks can still cover every cell of either board. On the plus side, the creator weakened the regular rooks and their promoted value is what you would consider a regular rook, while the regular and promoted bishop are analogues. When promoted, the bishop is far more valuable in this game.

I wonder if the creator of Nimmar was inspired in part by Kokusai Sannin Shogi. In both, a person wins either by checkmating all the other players or by getting their "king" to the centre square. Also in both, the pieces aren't named the way most shogi or chess pieces are named, but are instead called after political concepts and non-war-related things, like "temple" in Nimmar and "Colonist" or "Propaganda" in Kokusai Sannin. (EDIT: I haven't played many chess-type games with more than two players, however, so for all I know, the former is just a common characteristic of this type of game.)
Also, I found this in the Wikipedia article:
If two players start the game as allies, the remaining player is automatically First.

Yikes!
For what it's worth, you are permitted to capture all available pieces (though not required to). So you could get both our knights and Ric's pawn if you want. This is not what I want to have happen, but be aware that you have that available.
Either way, my next move won't change, so I'll play it anyway while you decide if you wanted to capture more of our guys.

I don't want to tell you too much what to do, but I would have recommended capturing with your lance. Remember, our ranging pieces are probably the only way we're going to get your dad. And remember that he could have captured your pawn on 13mn by illumination, leaving your lance in his crosshairs. You could have moved your lance to safety and captured my bishop simultaneously. Be on the lookout for such vulnerabilities :)

Nah, it's not as bad as all that:
[The King] may capture, without moving, any pieces that it could capture if it were to move. That is, it may capture more than one piece, but only one piece in any direction and only if they are unprotected by either opposing player. It cannot combine this power with a physical move.
So I could have taken the pawn, but not the other knight.

I didn't expect you to use your rook, but now that you have, it leaves open the easy trade of rooks as well, if you are interested. We have to be careful so as not to give your dad a big advantage while our pieces remain in hand, but it could be a worthwhile venture.
Erstwhile, I still think this will be an extremely difficult chase, but just knowing that your dad's king can only kill by illumination when the targeted pieces are undefended raises my hopes. If you want to know the truth, I still expect to lose, but I look forward to the merry chase.
Again, just to be clear, the king can kill multiple pieces by illumination in the same turn, as long as they aren't defended.

Sure, we can trade rooks. However, I'd like you to take mine in two moves, rather than right after I move my pawn out of the way, so that I can take yours with my knight.
