Holograms...

Two comments about the use of 'holograms' in the films...

1) in ROTS, specifically the scene where obi wan/yoda review the 'security archives' - the shots of Palpatine and Anakin, are they meant to be archived footage of Anakin speaking to a hologram of Palpatine after he has 'destroyed' the Jedi Temple? I can't quite figure out why they would be able to view such an interaction otherwise, because it doesn't seem that Palpatine did or would have had any reason to be in the Temple.

2) Wouldn't the additional scene in A New Hope with Jabba/Han been better had Lucas used a hologram of Jabba instead of trying to have a 'moving' version of Jabba in the scene? I'm watching the DVD as I type this to see what they actually say in that scene (in my imagination it seems totally redundant to simply repeat what Greedo reveals)... holograms, use 'em.

Yes, that's a much better idea than the glorius "tail stepping humor" thing. And yah, that scene (or the greedo scene) is redundant in the special editions.

What amazes me is how Lucas and his people payed attention to things like "Should we be able to see a hologram within a hologram?" yet didn't address why Leia remembers her mother but Luke doesn't.

It would be impossible to remove the original actor if there was simply a translucid hologram there. Well in a way it would be possible, but still... I'd rather see that scene with a Jabba than with a Jabba in a hologram, and if you guys think about it, I belive you will agree.

All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I don't know. Considering the solution GL used to get around this scene in the original release (making Greedo's scene tell the same info) I don't really need to see it at all. But that's not what we're talking about is it?

The hologram issue is yet another technology inconsistency issue found throughout the entire series. But hey- its just fantasy, right?

I say get rid of the Jabba scene all together. It's redundant and the movie was fine without it for 20 freakin' years!!

And do you honostly believe that Jabba would allow Han to walk all over him like that? No seriously, look at the Jabba we know from ROTJ and tell me that he would just make a funny face and let Han keep talking. Jabba would have had Han shot on the spot right then and there. No questions. Jabba is a motherf*cking ganster! In TPM they didn't even want to take the Queen to the damn PLANET because the Hutts were there.

Han disrespectinly walking on Jabba's tail like that? Oh no. I don't buy it. And I hate that scene.

I'm not saying I like the scene - I think its totally unnecessary and really hurts Jabba's ruthless gangster character we know from ROTJ. It also looks absolutely horrible.

I just spend lots of time thinking about ways that he could have done those sorts of scenes more tastefully. I really love the holograms throughout the trilogies and that seems like a perfect spot to use them.

I kinda like the hologram idea. It would get rid of the tail-stepping sequence (as absurdly funny as I thought that was), and if the hologram were a close-up on his face, it would delay the full reveal of Jabba until RotJ. Assuming, of course, one hadn't seen TPM.

My first post here... yay.

The way I see it, Palpatine came to the Jedi Temple after Anakin killed everyone there. But the hologram-within-a-hologram theory seems reasonable as well.
I have a bad feeling about this...

I think that the Han stepping on tail thing could have simply been solved with Jabba *mini drumroll* turning around! No need for a hologram or anything like that. Also, the conversation with Palpatine and, Anakin would have to be after he destroyed the temple. The conversation is different and, Anakin's less whatever he is after he cuts off Mace's arm. I don't know what the hell was up with all the faces he was making....
