Good morning,
I am new here and am a big fan of all things Star Wars. I am lucky enough–old enough–to have seen the original trilogy in theaters when it came out. I can still remember seeing Ep 4 four the first time at a drive-in movie theater. It was a double feature of the movie “Silver Streak” and a space movie nobody had heard of. It was late for a 10 year old, and I slept through most of Silver Streak. I awoke when it ended, just in time to see the second movie, of which I was completely unaware. Seems impossible but I was from a small farm town, home-schooled, and there was no internet, mirc chat, forums or anything like that.
I remember seeing the Fox logo, and the “A long time ago…” screen, and then the fanfare. It came out really loud in the car and fully woke me up. Seeing the Tantine IV first on screen and then the massive star destroyer following it had the intended effect on me. I was glued to the screen. The more dramatic ending to this story is that I watched Star Wars at the drive in and was completely hooked for life, but what really happened was my parents decided it was too late to stay and time to go home, despite my begging and pleading. I was able to see the full film shortly after at an indoor theater which worked out great because the screen was much closer, and the audio, while ancient compared to today’s standards, was loud and amazing.
I also saw ESB and ROTJ original release in the theater but this post is long enough. (:
I’m looking forward to reading about these projects! I can’t imagine the massive lift this must be and the technical skills needed to do it. Congratulations to all the contributors and creators working on it!
