Here's one way to make an impact....

A petition is one thing, but the almighty dollar speaks louder than signatures.
Now, I am going to buy the DVD set -- but how about if those of us who are
going to buy it *wait* a day or two, at least, before we take it home.

Studios always do a press release announcing how many copies sold the first
day or the week. There are records to be set, just like box office results. It
would make a statement to Lucasfilm if the Star Wars set didn't set any records
its first day of release. They would notice that people weren't buying it -- and
they would have tangible proof of how many people will buy the original
trilogy. Maybe it wouldn't make a difference, but it's worth a try, right?

I say we all steal it. Then return it the next day, opened. Then take the money and go to another store and ask if you can buy an opened copy for a discount.

absolutely. lucas won't listen to a petition, the power to gather a million names is insignificant next to the power of his ego. but money... the dark side, yes. quicker, easier. buy the greedo-shoots-first version, you must not, if save your friends you will.

Nice thought guys, but you should all know that when you return an opened DVD/CD/Computer Game, all they give you is a new copy that is sealed. And, sometimes, they will even take that cellophane wrap off the outside to ensure you can't try to return this replacement copy as a new one.

I'm just screwing around. Once the SE comes out on DVD, there'll be a whole new market for high quality bootlegs of the OT. That'll be what I'll watch.

If the stupid copy-protection thing doesn't prevent me, I guess I'll rent the fourth disc and copy it.

Anybody here know a good way to get rid of the copy protection, or dissuade it?

That was the black marker trick. If you don't know it, PM me. I'd rather not post it here.

1- I'm amazed SW DVDs didn't leak to the internet yet. If they didn't, maybe they are not ready? If they are not ready, they are beeing changed? Hmmnn...

2- I remember reading about this film festival where they picked one movie from each decade, and they chose star wars to represent the 70s, and Lucasfilm didn't allow they to show the original version as they intended, only the SE version. My question is: did they ever get a copy of the original version film? If they did, couldn't we fans, by one way or another, make copies of that film? I know it's kinda illegal, I'm sure the original trilogy is also under copyrights laws, even not "existing anymore", but... it would be symbolic. Like... kidnapping the original film, and saying it would not be returned, and we would make copies of it, until they choose to listen to our demands. There would be a lot of publicity, and the average people, who dosen't even know there are differences between the 2 movies, would agree and come to our side.

3- ...or we could wait the 75 years until the original movie becomes public domain. In 2052 the party begins!

Now that I have the OT on DVD, the pressure to buy, rent or steal the DVD's when they are released in september is off.

As a gesture I might consider not buying the DVD untill after a week or two. That is if (big IF) this would somehow send a signal to GL & Co. to think about putting the OT in its original form on DVD also. But I'm not sure about it...

And somehow I truly doubt it will. Unfortunate, yes. But not likely.

Yeah, too bad it wouldn’t work. It isn’t about money for Lucas, he just doesn’t care for the originals…

Hey, I've got all my Netflix stuff coming in. Gotta prioritize. Watch the stuff I own and can watch anytime, or watch the stuff that I'm paying for and need to return at some point to get new stuff. I've seen the Indy films enough over the years that I'm just not feeling the rush to watch them on DVD just yet. I can recite the damn films nearly line for line.
