I thought is was because they A) are upstanding law biding citizens, who may have differences of opinion with the distributor or originator of the source material but still think that they have the right to earn money for producing the toys they are playing with and B) comparison*.
If you have spent weeks, months or years obsessing about 'improving' something you want people to look back at the original to draw conclusions.
*the OUT is perfect as it is people making preservation projects of those films would gleefully retire if the originators and distributors of that material didn't keep cutting it with baby laxative.
