Have you played SWTOR?

No, but I hear that even with the Revan expansion there’s still little to noting to do in the end game so I don’t know if it’s worth it. Looks kind of fun for an MMO though.

Well SWTOR might be officially MMO but MMO related stuff is rather secondary to its storyline (single player) content. Basically I didn’t care about MMO stuff (PVP, end game PVE) or expansions and I kept my interaction with other players to an absolute minimum to maintain the immersion. I would also suggest avoiding any Revan related side story stuff.

If you ever decide to try you shouldn’t worry about having little to do. The original eight characters storyline content is huge. I would suggest trying Imperial Agent or Sith Warrior storylines. In particular, Agent got an universal praise among players.

My friend says that KOTOR is the best piece of Star Wars media, and even though I’ve played the game I know it can’t be true! I don’t know the first thing about the game so I can’t argue! Please give me reasons why it is inferior to TESB! PLEASE!

Easy - it’s a video game.

Spoken like someone who has never played a video game

Well that’s just silly.

It’s unfair to compare a movie in a video game just like it’s unfair to compare a movie to a book.

Agreed! So why bother?

Comparing a play to a film or a television adaptation of a novel to the source material is perfectly fine.
It’s just stuff.

Comparing film to a novel isn’t really fair under some circumstances, though. In a book, you have a narrator, and he/she tells you what happens. Whether it’s first person, third person limited, or third person omniscient, can have a great impact on what can be portrayed in a film. For instance, a first person novel is very difficult to do without having a constant main character voice-over to display his thoughts and emotions, and we all know that voice-overs don’t work well all the time. Then you have things that just aren’t plausible or practical to show in a film. Visual adaptations of literature aren’t ever going to please everybody because most descriptions are left to interpretation of the reader. Though, the best way to go is obviously to get the original author to co-write the script/screenplay, and to give his word on aesthetic designs, etc.

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

I came here to make a Beatles joke, but I know it can’t possibly beat that so I’ll leave it unsaid

Without that sort of comparison we would have no metaphor, no poetry, hardly any art.

I understand your point, but comparing a video game to ESB is silly.

Movies are going to be inherently inferior to video games in certain ways. For example Bastila Shan is more developed in Kotor than the entire trio in the OT combined. And she’s not even the most interesting character in the game. As someone who has played and watched both things I am telling you it’s unfair to compare them.

I may get it if it’s less than 30 dollars.

A film to a videro game is like a novel to a “choose your own adventure” book.

I think they actually made it free to play at some point. Not entirely sure how it works but I am sure you have some limitations with free to play.

I suggest you check this introductory material (if you haven’t seen it):

I really like those cinematic’s. They’re very aesthetically pleasing.

Also, I started playing KOTOR, so soon I’ll be able to judge for myself whether it’s better than TESB or not.

Not enough people read the EU.

Unless the movie is based on the book, because that makes it totally fair.

KOTOR is pretty good, KOTOR II is alright, neither are as good as the OT.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Okay guys, I feel as if I’ve come full circle since I created this thread, because I just finished playing through KOTOR (haven’t started the second one yet), and you know, I think my friend was right that it stacks up against the OT. I actually really loved it.

In terms of storytelling and character development KOTOR is ahead of SW and ROTJ by a substantial margin. The plot and themes presented in KOTOR II are even deeper and the game is filled with moral ambiguity and things to challenge your perceptions and values. Still install TSLCRM though.

Glad you liked it! It really is there up there with the best. I know there has been praises for KOTOR II and it’s still a good game, but the ending just comes out of nowhere (I think they ran out of time to finish it). Other than the disappointing ending I don’t even remember the basic plot line for it, it wasn’t as cohesive as the first one.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I think the second one had more interesting stuff going on, but the execution was definitely messier. I’d like to revisit those myself, but I just don’t like to devote that kind of time to a video game anymore.
