Hello peoples. I'm completely new to the idea of creating custom DVD covers for my DVDs. I've been meaning to do a set of custom covers for my Star Wars saga using the poster art as well as nixing the Roman numerals in the top left hand corner of the front of each cover. I've also been thinking about doing some covers with the black backround and the silver borders (like the classic action figure cards out there.
Unfortunately, I have no idea which program is ideal to use. I've never done this before.....
With that said, just a few questions:
Which program is the best for doing projects like this?
Does anyone know where I can find high res images of the backs of the current covers?
Are there any places that have the Star Wars fonts similair or exactly like those on the existing covers, spines, posters, etc.?
Is there any place that has the "Star Wars" style templates (i.e., the black and silver borders, etc) available for download?
As far as printing is concerned:
What type of paper is best to use for the best printing results? I know that legal sized 8.5" x 14" paper is needed. But what textures are the best?
Any help offered would be greatly appreciated. I can't hardly wait to get to work on some of the ideas I have for covers.
Thanks,
MtD
Illustrator is best for doing fonts & logos, Photoshop for all of the artwork.
If you scour the internets, you can find hi-res images of the back of the current covers. However, in my experience it's always better to re-create things from scratch rather than build on top of pre-existing work. All of the fonts are readily available.
For the spines, like I just said, all of the fonts are readily available.
I'm not sure of 'templates' per se, but you should be aware that the Kenner cardback style has already been done by others.
People seem to have good luck using a medium gloss paper, but I'm not the one to answer this - anyone?
For finishing your results for display on message boards such as this, download a program called Imandix and it can give you the cool 3D look you may have seen displayed here.
Good luck!
