I wanted to know if you still own a copy of the original 1986 35mm or 16mm open matte LPP film reel of The Great Mouse Detective. It was never scanned or digitized, and still has not been available online. The reason that I am asking for this is because not only because the original theatrical print of Disney’s animated film contains the original 1985 variant of the Walt Disney Pictures logo. Additionally, the 35mm has more clarity of detail than the current home video version on blu-ray due to excess DNR. Disney is infamous for removing or plastering their older logos their mid to late 80s animated feature films and one live action feature Benji The Hunted as well as the 1990s and 2000s films afterwards, plus adding excess DNR while removing natural grain due to the Hollywood trend of widescreen tvs and sharpness.

I’m specifically finding the higher quality original 1986 Eastman 35mm version of the whole movie. Anyone might have it but choose not to scan, digitize or leak it online for any reason, possibly something is wrong with these hoarders. Today more people are now comfortable sharing full selected 35mm film scans of classics. It’s possible that the original 35mm OCN lpp print was difficult to find because its’ a collector’s item or Disney is being strict about it or the original 1985 logo was lost under their incompetence or negligence.

If anyone all around the United States or around the world own the original 1986 35mm print version of The Great Mouse Detective and have not scanned, digitize it, do it so i can take a look too see how well it still looks. Do the same for the 1988 35mm/16mm lpp film reel of Oliver and company as its original opening and closing logo is in widescreen because Oliver is the first animated film by Disney to be fully produced in widescreen (plus recently the theatrical bootleg footage was leaked by Woomy . The Great Mouse Detective was produced in fullscreen open matte but was presented in cropped widescreen in theaters, DVD and bluray releases.

I’m guessing that you’re looking for a presentation that includes the 1985 version of the Walt Disney Pictures logo. All that’s needed is to splice that version of the logo into the opening and closing of the most recent release of the film. Unlike most previous releases, the most recent one looks like it was transferred from the original camera negatives, with the only exception being the Walt Disney Pictures logo, which looks like the one from about 1994. At least the audio has also been fixed. This version, which is available on DVD and Blu-Ray is the closest thing to the original release from 1986.

I didn’t know this existed but I would like to support any project that may come along in the future. I remember my little sister watching this movie non stop and I would love to see a proper preservation

I totally agree, would it be great if we could do a crowdfund or a project so i can donate you the money if you have the 35mm copy with you? This movie is special because its underrated and one of the animation’s best family films. I can see why only few people own a physical 35mm filmstrip copy.
