Help: looking for... Special Editions minus controversial/stupid changes?

I was thinking about the Special Edition changes, and I wondered if there ever was a fan edit series of the OT where the really stupid changes are switches for the say the Despecialized Editions, but kept most of the changes to the movies. Is there a series like this?

Also, I am aware of adywan’s Star Wars: Revisited series, but this includes original changes to the movies done by adywan himself.

No offense, kid, but I don’t think you know how to boil water.

ANH Revisited is really cool but I prefer his “Purist Edition” which removes his larger changes but so far I haven’t been able to find the perfect version of ANH to suit my preferences. I’ll probably eventually make my own to remove all of the CGI crap on Mos Eisley but keep a few minor “fixes”.

ESB IMO is perfect theatrically. Harmy’s DE 2.0 is fine for now and I don’t think I’ll download another version of it until there’s a clean film remaster/scan or a 4K release.

ROTJ is also fine theatrically, although I do want to see your edit, DarthRush. Some of the special effects don’t hold up but my issues with it are really the script and not the visuals.

I might be one of the few people in this universe who actually likes non purist additions by adywan like the emperors theme on the Death Star or the new music for obi vs Vader.

And by the end of the week, I’ll throw up my edit. I think of it more like a hybrid though, borrowing the best elements of all edits for a seamlessly improved experience like what the recent AOTC Sanded Down edit was.

My main problem with Revisited wasn’t the added music, but the fact that no physical editing to the Darth v Obi fight itself was done. Prowse and Guinness had to work with very fragile props and so the scene suffered from that. It still baffles me to this day Lucas had no motivation to edit the fight in a way that would at least improve the choreography. If I had the software and time, that scene would at the top of my list to fix.

That’s so weird cause when I watched it I swore it was edited for improved choreography also but It’s probably all in my head haha

I’m working on a 1080p “pseudo-despecialized edition” of A New Hope that has some of the sfx additions from the SE peppered in (only those that I felt genuinely enhanced the original). Basically, what I’m doing with my Episode I edit will be done to all the prequels, and then I’ll be making minimal adjustments in the OT to keep a steady flow of continuity throughout my edits of the saga. It’s a little early in the process and wouldn’t be completed for a while, though. Just throwing it out there haha.

Actually, the fight is heavily re-edited in Revisited.

Oh, I was probably too busy paying attention to the new rotoscoped lightsabers then, ha ha.

Ady did a great job with that duel.

My only issue with Revisited is that on repeat viewing, his from scratch Death Star shots stand out. They were awesome the first few times, but over the years (and with better, larger TVs) they’ve begun to show their “homemade seams”. With the exception of that, I’m quite happy with revisited and it remains one of the best looking DVDs, fanmade or commercial, that I’ve ever seen.

Beyond that though, I think that plenty of us would be far happier with the OT Special Edition (97 Version) if in ANH
-Han Shoots First
-No Jabba Scene
in ESB
-Wampa Scene new shots were removed
-Luke doesn’t scream as he falls
in RotJ
-No Jedi Rocks

Most of these were so blatant that they’re impossible to ignore, and are the real reason most of the hate and fan frustration arose. I’d love to see a release without these things with the full SE color timing.

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

Interesting. Basically your own take on something like KK650’s Semi-Specialized edition? And what source will you use for the 1080p despecialized scenes? Guessing probably SSE?
