Help: looking for... Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - a Theatrical Cut

The best I’ve ever scrounged up was that old DVD that Warner Bros. released that was non-anamoprhic and had the film on both sides.  It was the very definition of cheap.

They’ve subsequently released a special edition DVD and Blu-ray but only have that wretched extended cut.

Anyone know of a way to get a nice transfer of the theatrical cut, perhaps somewhere outside of North America?

“Alright twinkle-toes, what’s your exit strategy?”

Yes. There was at one point, but it's not very good.  I deleted it a while back.

The EE does not really harm the film, in my opinion, but I can see why people would want the theatrical.  Are there alternate takes like Amadeus?  If not, editing the BD would be the way to go.

I prefer the extended as it was more reynolds cut and less of Costner's ego's cut

There are about 3 alternate takes which are not in the EE as in the TC.

Thanks.  Three alternate takes isn't too bad.  Using the BD as the main source would still be the way to go.

Got the HDTV version for you, it is not stellar and not in english but it is a start with some colour correction and a play plus an english soundtrack we are in business.

Damn, did they have a pink setting for scanning in the 90's?????

Ugly looking thing!

Going to try a few changes and make it more rich and golden, and also make it look more like film and less like video (I can make the original available and take ideas on CC)

Nasty pink

Colour Correct

Close to final colour/lighting

I thought I was the only one hoping for a better version of the theatrical cut.

The whole devil worship plotline is awful.

Anyone have an English 5.1 or preferably 2.0 mix I can try and sync?

Just a heads up, when we cut that non-anamorphic, DD2.0 release of the theatrical version in the U.S., the U.K. release was anamorphic with DD5.1.

There's probably PAL speed up, but a PAL to NTSC conversion of this disc would probably work quite well.

Edit: Scratch that:

Alternatively, there appears to be an English R2 version of the film that is single-sided dual-layered, in PAL with a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. So what is the catch? The British version features the almost requisite BBFC cuts, removing 29 seconds from the movie.

 Pink telecine?

Absolutely no idea. I'm not spending the money to buy it outright. I'd upgrade but they don't let you use the Blu-ray. I don't have the DVD anymore.

You can watch a 2 minute preview, though.

I wish they would release a Blu-ray of the theatrical version. The Extended version was poorly edited and made no sense in some scenes.

1. In the meeting where the barons and the sheriff are dividing up the UK, in the original script the celtic chief chops off one of the barons head. I am not sure if this was ever filmed but you clearly see the Celtic chief laughing in one scene and then it switches to the table and you see blood everywhere? Makes no sense.

2. The sheriffs scribe had his tongue cut out but near the end of the film, Robin asks him where Marian is and he says "that way"???

3. The witch was clearly established that she was a fake in the extended version but at the end she touches Marian's stomach and says "she is ripe, she will give us a son"???

The extended cut was a completely different story to the theatrical and more care should have been taken to blend the 2 versions, but obviously the editor couldn't be bothered.

There's a 35mm print of the theatrical version for sale on eBay UK. Would be good if someone had a film scanner for this. Not sure what the condition of the film would be like tho

Any progress on this by anyone or is everyone waiting for someone else?

Got the file in the "project drawer" (thanks, dvdmike!) but should find time to do it...

I'd like to mention that a few weeks back someone shared a 1080p and 720p version of the HDTV version with English 2.0 audio.

Might be worth a look for those interested.  Can be found on the pair of ducks site.

Any chance the 1080p HDTV theatrical cut gets hosted elsewhere?

It's not a torrent, so it's pretty easy for anyone to grab.  He is using Uploaded and Share-Online.
