Help Wanted: 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' Laserdisc Footage - censored scene — Page 2

Well, in that scene with Bugs, he basically has all of his fingers up at different times. I believe it's a reference to the way Groucho Marx used to hold his cigar. I just took a grab of the the split second when his middle one was up.

Considering all the things people with overactive imaginations *think* they see in many a Disney film, it's really funny most of these gags went unnoticed until the early 90's. Once the media got wind of it, the late great Dave's Video in Los Angeles experienced a mad rush on the laserdisc!

Yes, but in this case .... people were onto something. Dick had an unusual sense of humor.

I work at Rasputin's Music in Berkeley, CA. I think I may have met someone from the boards the other day while working. I talked with someone when they bought three different versions of Roger Rabbit. LD, VHS, and DVD. I then said that George Lucas was my enemy for not releasing the Star Wars trilogy, and he directed me to ot.com (which I've been a part of for a while now). Ring any bells, anyone? Anyway, I'm glad you guys are doing these restoration projects. If the studios refuse to release the movies in their true and complete, original, or best form, the fans are the only hope for film lovers. You'd think not releasing stuff goes against a positive business model for the businesses they're in. Evidently they should be in another business.
Cheers!

Kinda like the undressed woman in The Rescuers.

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.

The Rescuers is another case where Disney did a recall on the Laserdisc, only to have many copies escape them!

I actually work at the studio where Roger was shot (Elstree) and have a giant Roger photo watching over me as I go into my office!

LOVE this movie...and there are TONS of little gags that were animated and cut last minute that have to be out there. New to the forums and not sure how you post images here, but I have some from some scenes that never made it in.

Also have, as I said in the Theif thread, the "Roger Rabbit And The Secrets Of ToonTown" special, which is a great, technical, 50-min doc.

The pig-head scene was not complete on the current Vista DVD (shameful!) and was a hybrid cut that showed part of it in pencil test. I know this was fully completed (it was the first part of the movie to be done) and would love to see this back in properly, where it belongs.

Regarding the Roger shorts: the last one, Trail Mix Up, contained a "Rugged Tools" (or "Ragged Tools") joke with a woman straddling a chainsaw (as Roger flied past to save Baby Herman from the saw mill). On the UK VHS, the background was all "mushed up" so that we couldn't see the poster. On the original CAV LD (which I have), the poster is clearly there.

I'm not sure which one is on the Vista DVD, but a part of me thinks it could very well be the "uncut" version.

The Vista series was a disappointment - instead of the redundant pan-and-scan/open matte version, I'd have much preferred a complete history, with all the pre-Williams and Zemeckis plots and tests in there.

Finally...for someone looking for a Dick Tracy trailer...I have one on VHS (under "Walt Disney Pictures" no less), as well as off-air recordings of a half-hour promo doc, and (I think!) an EPK thing that runs about seven minutes.

I could add this to the project...

That would go among the DVD-ROM extras.

No the poster is blurred out in the Vista version also. The reason for this was a complaint from Rigid Tool company. Rigid (a subsidiary of Emerson Electric at the time) claimed that Disney infringed on their copyright of the Rigid Tool calendar. Which is kind of ironic since Disney is so protective of their own copyrights. Rigid Tool Calendars were somewhat of a cult item and are collectible. I have a few Rigid calendars, one of which has Patty "Apollonia" Kotero of "Purple Rain" fame, posing for June 1984. She is in a simialr pose as the one of Jessica Rabbit is in for the poster in "Trail Mix Up". I would like to find a clear capture of the original scene from "Trail Mix Up" to play around with in a graphics program. I would like to try and make a mini poster of the of it.

Yes, Rigid Tools - that was it. I heard it was because the gag was overtly sexual, maybe a combination of things?

My biggest problem is that I have all PAL equipment. I would gladly try and grab the CAV frames with the clear poster, but it's NTSC. I'm seeing a friend next week who has an Apple FCP. Maybe we can input directly into his computer, but I don't think he has any analog ins...!

With PAL, if you can just get it into DVD format, we can play a PAL DVD in NTSC land. Any other format is a little screwy. So a friend with a good DVD recorder ... =)

How the hell did this tool company even spot this before the video release? The gag goes by so fast. Some employee has bionic vision or something?

If anyone would like to summarise what formats WFRR was released on, and which releases are censored, please do so. I'm too lazy to find out for myself.

The only releases I can confirm over here in PAL Land are the 1990 single VHS, 1996 It's Roger Rabbit [Exclusive Gift Pack] VHS and the 2003 single DVD.

It's Roger Rabbit was a triple bill of all the shorts. Check out the cover and screenshot.

Can you turn on your PM's please?

Yeah, me too. There were no extras at all on Dick Tracy until I added back in the Roger Rabbit cartoon!

I actually have a making of special for DT from the original release. Not sure if this is the same thing. I also have a trailer from the original Honey I Shrunk The Kids. Not sure if it's the same trailer.

I made a DVD of this plus the making of A League of Their Own (I'm a huge madonna fan).

There were two Dick Tracy releases? The only one I have seen is anamorphic with no extras, no trailer. It's in DTS and DD 5.1 plus French. I don't hace any of the Honey movies yet, I need to get these. Isn't part two in fullscreen instead of wide?

I'd love to see a transfer of these onto DVD. I loved the Dick Tracy movie and would love to see these on DVD. I was dissappointed to see that there were no extras on the DVD.

Digitalfreaknyc...

Sorry, been away filming again, so I may have a few days where I can't get near a PC, let alone on these boards...

I have the Dick Tracy trailer and promo doc from off air TV. I need to work out how to get them to you. My PMs are switched on...
