I have an N64, SoE and a DVD recorder. I can record from the N64 to the recorder.

Is there a way to get what you want without playing the game all the way through??

ie If I had a code to get to each level and record the screen, would that give you what you need???

I have the PC version too. Is that different????

The PC version has real cut scenes with 3D models and voice acting (at least I think there is voice acting, but I know there are 3D model), the N64 version only has still images or sometimes semi animated 2D scenes (for example a still image of Xisor's face will go from straight faced to evil smile. Or a shot of IG-88 will have blinking lights) also in the N64 version all dialog and development is all written. Other than that I think the two versions are identical as far as gameplay goes.

Whatcha planning davey? A Shadows of the Empire movie? That would be pretty cool. But if that was the case I am not sure why you would want still scene from the N64.

the PC version has proper CG cutscenes with spoken dialogue, which I alread yhave. The N64 version just has srill screens with text underneath. It's these thats I'm after...along with any other goodness you might find Russ. I'm not sure wether the DVD recorder will work properly with the N64 - I know I could never get a decent capture from my PS1, but it's worth a shot.

heres some cheats that might help:
View Ending
Start a new game on Hard and enter your name as "_Credits". When you start the game you will see the ending credits and a playing tip.

View Designers
After you see the ending with view credits, press START to return to the title screen. From here, hold UP-RIGHT with the control stick and you will see the game's designers.

Debug Cheat
Enter your name as _Wampa__Stompa and start a game. Then select a level and pause the game. Now hold all of the C buttons L and R and Left on the D-Pad and the Control Stick halfway to the Left until you hear a tone and then push it halfway to the Right until you hear the tone and then push it back to the Left until you hear the tone then push it back to the Right until the tone and then back to the Left until you hear the tone. Now pink Letters will appear at the top of the screen use the D-Pad to Select them and press A when you find one you like. (I think this one'll give you invincibility and other options)

Ultimate Cheat
Enter _Wampa__Stompa (the _ designates a space) as your name and make sure the controls are set to default. Start a game, pause, then simultaneously press and hold left-C, right-C, top-C, bottom-C, Z, L, R, and Left on the directional pad. While holding the buttons, move the analog stick halfway to the left and hold it in that position until you hear a sound. Then move the analog stick halfway to the right and hold it in that position until you hear a sound. Repeat the process, alternating from left to right until the words "Get All Stuff" appear at the top of the screen. Press the L and R buttons or Up and Down on the analog stick to cycle through the cheats.

couldnt find any level select cheats tho :-(

Well there was already a SOTE DVD release that I have that contains the PC cutscenes (can't remember who did it or if I hurried it together after finding them on the net). But (after I finished The Clones Revealed of course ) I was thinking about something more along the lines of a companion DVD, featuring both sets of scenes, the soundtrack, the comic adaption, trading cards etc

That would be awesome! I really liked SOTE a lot. I had considered making something like this myself before but never got around to it and finally just gave it up. I would highly recommend the abridged audio book. It is very well read and even has sound effects and music from the SOTE soundtrack, and it is a decent abridgment. In fact, that is what I had intended for my DVD, to play the audio from the audio book and show the relevant pictures from SOTE concept art (using the N64 stills, scans of the trading cards and perhaps some things from The Secrets of Shadows of the Empire for the particular part that is being read. Unfortunately I really don't have the time anymore to do something like that or I would still consider it.

Actually you probably could do that, but since they are somewhat animated I think davey wants video captures, not just snapshots. Also for russs, I think you should be able to record from you N64 to your DVD recorder no problem. My friend and I once hooked up an N64 to a VCR and recorded a documentary on Wompas using SOTE and the quality came out great, I imagine a DVD recorder should record about the same as a VCR.

I have the OST for Shadows of the Empire by Joel McNeely if it helps.

Thank God! I have been hoping somebody would do something with SOTE. The strange thing is that was always one of my favorite chapters in the Star Wars saga even though it was never a film. I had always hoped someone would make a real fan film or something of the sorts... but I guess this is the best thing I could really hope for. The games, comics and books were all good. Good luck to ya daveytod!

just so people have an idea of what I'm talking about with regards the N64 cutscenes, this is what I've found on the net so far:

It basically makes your computer think that it is the game console, its kind of like a software version of the whole game console, you load the "cartridge" by opening the file for the particular game, in this case shadows of the empire. I have a copy of the emulated game and the emulator itself for N64. You can find emulators and roms (the game itself) for all older game systems on the web. I could probably send you a copy of the emulated version if you want to try it out.

yeah, i can imagine the youtube footage would be pretty sucky. I don't think I am good enough to actually try to run through the emulated game, and try to capture it, but I will send you the emulated version to try out

I don't know much about screen recorders, i haven't had much luck with them, someone else will have to chime in on that one. Also, let me know if that particular version of the Shadows .rom gives you any trouble, I have about a dozen other ones. Sometimes they get a little finicky, but at least one version usually works awesome for me. So if that one doesn't work that well, I can send you the others.

The rom itself seems to be working fine, if a little titchy on the ol' controls

yeah, i found using the keyboard to play quite tricky (not that it makes me much worse, that hard to do ), it may help to get a USB controller or something.

I've beaten that game through and through, if my computer was fast enough to emulate the N64 I would do it, but unfortunately it isn't. For whoever is trying to do this, just use the wampastompa code, you can skip right through sections of the levels. It is a pain to enter than code, you have to hold down all buttons and tilt the joystick exactly halfway to the left until you hear a dong, then halfway to the right until you hear a dong, then half way to the left until you hear a dong, and so on until the debug screen pops up.

I have no clue how this could be done through an emulator. Perhaps if any N64 emulator has a Gameshark feature that would be the easiest way.

Ive been messing around with the emulator and MyScreenRecorder but the results have been less than impressive. Here's hoping Russs has more luck

that sucks. I havent had the best luck with screen recorders, but don't really know enough to complain too much. hopefully someone can help with this and get it recorded. I would really love to see this come together

Seriously, if I had a way to record straight from my N64 I would knock this out for you in less than any hour. I really wish I did. I tried to use a screen recorder one time and I never had the tinest bit of luck with it. I have kind of written screen recorders off as not being worth the effort, but this was years ago and I thought perhaps they have better software out now, but apparently not.
