Help Wanted: Is here some CG artist with some free time? — Page 4

'Seamless' just means that it is coherent and convincingly done. There are no telltale "seams" evident in the finished product. And I agree; I think it looks stellar.

Tarkin appears interlaced, but I'm importing the image sequence into Final Cut and I'll see how it looks there.

I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

Looks pretty good! Once I increase the contrast a little, it matches well. The only thing is that there is still some (what looks like) motion blur. Most noticeable when Tarkin moves, it looks somewhat like an interlaced video. It must be an issue with exporting, because each frame is a blend of two other frames and you wouldn't have manually painted into a half-frame. Weird. If it can encode and upload fast enough before I have to go to work, I'll upload how the clip looks in context and let you all see for yourself how it looks.

Here is the clip, in context with all the grain and that sort of thing.

Hey Guys, I'm loving this clip change. The Death star should never have been in episode 3. :)

I've been working on my own edit, but I have zero effects skills. I've been trying to raise a sense of oppressive ambiance in the film. We are always hearing about all the power grabbing that the future emperor is doing, but we don't ever see any real world manifestation. (People are going to the opera? WTF?) I was thinking it would be worth it to add some probe droids and clone troopers to some scenes among the general populace (such as when Anakin is going to the opera) and some of the background shots to add a sense of immanent threat, somewhat in the vein of metropolis. I've always remembered the imperial city from the Tie Fighter game looking super gothic and threatening. If someone could do a scene like that, it would be awesome!

REPORT:

  • Cutting Tantive IV (there's still a lot of cutting to do).
  • The wampa shot has made little progress, but i'm still working on it.

Report:

Todat i just tried to fix the tantive IV scene, the cut dosn't look good, and when i try to blur the edges, part of coruscant appear's on the scene.

Well, that's no good. Do you think any of the other shots are workable candidates, or should we call it quits for this one?

I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

I'm still testing other scenes, and trying to make one out of scratch (random internet images), so let's see how that turns out, and then i contact you.

Sounds like a plan to me.

The Tantive IV scene cannot be done, below i'll explain all the reasons...

Well to begin working with the scene, i got to cut the ship. That part was Ok, but, i need to make it fit into a black background (that would later be changed to the starfield).

The problem is, the cut looks ugly:

I'll tried to blur the edges to get a good result, it was the logical thing to do. But when i did it, part of the shot appeared :

(In the shot i'm using mask feather to blur the edges, i tried other blur effects, but they all had pretty much the same results).

So, the shot was bad, i tried to make a scene on my own, but there's no way a scene made from scratch can fit into an ILM movie.

I'm still open to suggestions.  (Sorry).

And about the wampa scene, its looking bad, but with a bit of brightness correction and editing i think i can do it, since it has to fit a black and white video.

And Gimpy, after i'm done with these scenes, lets talk about  your scene.

I see what you mean. My only idea is to wonder whether there's a way to apply a feathered darkening around the edge. I don't know if that makes sense, but I'm talking about fading the edges of the outline to black gradually.

That, or you could start with the other shot of the Taintive IV from that position, where they are approaching Coruscant rather than flying through the atmosphere. It still might have the same problem toward the end of the shot, though.

If it doesn't work, no one can say you didn't try.

Remember that shot that i wanted to use originally ???
This one...

I already started cutting, but as you said, there is the sound issue.

But... Well, i got the music from the movie, its possible to edit an fade into the music after the NOOOO ?

Or maybe the NOOOO can come out of the shot like an echo or something...

The point is.... that shot works for cutting, but it works with sound ?

I can figure out something to do with the audio, if the video will work. Go for it, man!

Here's a test shot:

(soundtrack included)

So tell me, you want me to cut the taintive IV to change the background, or you want me to just cut the background to erase the ship ?

That looks amazing! It's perfect. I'm doing a test encode now, and I will wrangle the audio side of things later.

I am noticing, however, that it has the same frame-blending oddity as the other one did. Whatever you did to fix that one should work for this one too.

The Death Star change is debatable, but this FX shot of the Taintive IV was necessary, and will really help sell the idea that Padme's on board alive.

I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

Can you explain the problem, i don't understand...

Author

It's the same issue as before. For example, if you go to where two shots meet, there is a frame that contains a blend of both shots. For this particular (somewhat static) shot of the ship, it isn't a big deal. But each frame is a blend of two others.

I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

I was able to get the audio sounding pretty good, removing that engine sound. I could go so far as to remove the "Nooooo" line entirely, though it might seem weird for Vader to be standing there silent. Then again, it's difficult to imagine what impressions one would have had if they'd never seen the original. Hard to say, so I'm just going to leave it.

I'm still trying to fix it, but not to worry, it will look good.

It is not nearly as noticeable as with the Death Star/Tarkin clip, so it's no big deal.

Sorry, I had a late night and early morning! But I think this looks more than adequate. It's a fairly static shot and the frame blending wouldn't be noticed unless carefully searched for. Mission accomplished, and thanks so much!

Working now on the wampa shot and the speeder shot, i will release both scenes toghether.
