Help Wanted: Halloween 5 35mm Open-Matte Preservation

So a few months back, I came across a 35mm theater print of Halloween 5. Interestingly, this particular print was in Open-Matte, so I had to buy it. As of right now, I’m still waiting for the package to arrive, but once it does, I’ll have the whole film scanned at full 4K resolution, uncropped with original theatrical sound mix included. This will be expensive, though, so if anyone’s willing to chip in, I’m very open. I just need to create a Patreon page for this project. I’m probably going to need $1,575.72. I’ll let you know when I start the page.

UPDATE: Turns out I’m gonna need around 500 dollars in order to do the scan.

UPDATE(11/15/2021): Just set up a paypal.me account

it shouldn’t be surprising it’s open-matte cause it has a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, so with the exception of optical shots and the like, all prints in this ratio of any movie would be open-matte typically

You’re not wrong.

Where’d you get your scanning prices from? I think if you get in touch with Willarob, TomArrow, or those guys who have done some great scanning recently, it only costs a few hundred.

I might check those guys out. Do they have any websites or profiles I can look at?

You can message either one of those guys right here on this forum. Willarob has done many Bond pictures, Star Wars films, and everything inbetween. TomArrow (or LucasGodzilla here on OT) does a lot of varied work as well, and I’ve donated to prints scanned by both of them with exceptional quality.

Great news! The film print managed to get through customs. I’m hoping to receive it in the coming weeks.

Just so you’re aware those aren’t the full facts. NCFan reached out and I’m going to get a quote for them with a company I know. The scanner Williarob uses charges about $.22/ft commercially, the “fan rate” comes with conditions and isn’t the best scanner for prints. NCFan actually has a competitive quote from a good company, but we can likely do a better price at a different company.

I’d absolutely pitch in a few bucks too to go towards this scan!
