Anyone have an HD 1080i version of the 2002 release? I can’t find any HD versions floating around. 😦

The new blu-ray is supposed to be fantastic. If you are looking for just the movie and not the extras, what is so special about the 2002 version?

Basicly it's the special edition which features amongst other things, cgi E.T.
Kinda funny how for star wars we have to fight for the originals, and now people want the special edition of a movie that now only has the original version out.
Well the non cgi scenes and their color were fantastic in the print i saw in theaters. The movie underwent a major restoration wonder how the blu ray compares. Still it is kind of silly they cannot have both versions, though i don't like the walkie talkies and altered dialogue.
I do believe the color timing was different in the special edition. The color timing on the video releases was not identical to the theatrical for the original version anyway. So there have been many color choices for the film over the years much like the star wars trilogy.
After Spielberg's digital color tinkering of Raiders i am afraid the blu ray won't even be the true theatrical for E.T. colors but possibly a fourth color timing.
“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.
I don't think the blu-ray has the walkie talkies. Here is a screen snapshot.

Hopefully Eloitt says 'penis breath' ;)
Oh wow, that looks glorious. I can't wait to have that baby in my hands.

I did see it on abc family's HD channel maybe 1 1/2 years ago, but for some reason it was pan-and-scanned... which is odd, considering they air pretty much every movie 16:9 even on their SD feed. Maybe this hint might help you look.

Did anyone ever find this?

I have the official (anniversary edition) blu-ray and I'm here to confirm that Elliot does indeed say "Penis breath". Slightly off-topic, but that is the weirdest insult I've ever heard.

We know it doesn't. It's the 1982 version.
I'm looking for the 2002 version.
I'm looking for this too and hoping DFNYC can make a BD25 outta this version. To put with the official Blu-ray as a second disc.
DFNYC, did you already make a DVD5 or DVD9 with all the LD extras?
Sadly, all I have is the 2002 DVD version which contains both cuts of the film.
Are we sure it exists? The only HD version I knew of was the wowow laser pacific one that became the BD master
lol it exists, I have this 1080i HD video, but it is not the correct OAR of 1.85:1 this is 1.78:1 I also have the Signature Edition LD audio rip.
Ok I will use my google-fu later and look for it, I am 3/3 this week so I am on a hot streak fining things for people
Well I can say I got this file years ago, because I searched for it when this was brought up and then happened to look at my HD 1080i list and found out I already had it lol.
Is there a theatrical LD for some better audio? I assume the Signature LD audio I have already is for the longer cut Special Edition.
So you have the full film?
I might have found a 720p version is the running time different to the TC?

longer cut? afaik there are only two cuts of the movie. the 1982 version and the 2002 s.e.. unless there is a third version, then the signature edition has the original 1982 cut on it.

I said assume, obviously I am mistaken right, good then I have good audio for this HD file I have then, so I assume the Special Edition(longer cut) is what is on the BD's? or am I wrong there as well?
blu-ray has the original 1982 theatrical cut with another 7.1 upmix :(
BD should have the 1982 theatrical release if I'm not mistaken.

Well good then the audio will be good a couple of ways, so if the theatrical is on BD why the interest in this 1080i file then? this is getting confusing.
