Dune was released in 70mm during it’s original theatrical release with a 6-Track Dolby Stereo Mix
The 70mm prints of “Dune” featured magnetic Six-Track Dolby Stereo (“A” encoded Baby Boom format [Dolby processor setting “42”]) and 2.20:1 imagery blown up from anamorphic 35mm and provided a superior projection and sound experience in comparison to the film’s 35mm prints.
About the only description I can find about what this 70mm mix sounds like is an old FanRes post about 70mm mixes where someone said the intro had way more bass than on home media with another user speculating that the '97 AC-3 Laserdisc might have the mix. I currently have my hands on the '98 Universal DVD which apparently uses the same master as the AC-3 Laserdisc and might have the same audio since both have Dolby Digital 5.1 track.
The only other info I have found is that even if the Laserdisc isn’t the 70mm mix it’s still might be a different 5.1 mix than the Universal or Arrow BD as an old DVDTalk review of the HD-DVD noted that the Laserdisc had significantly more bass and was much louder than the HD-DVD mix (which was ported into lossless for the Universal BD, but increased by at least 10db for some reason).
If anyone else has recollections about seeing Dune in 70mm or a cap of the AC-3 Laserdisc for comparison I would be much thankful. I plan to sync this 70mm mix to the 4K for a personal project.
