Hello I'm new and have a question. (re StarWars.com and its message boards)

I used to chat at the starwars.com message boards until I got fed up with how lame the fanboys were there and how strict the moderators were there. The moderators suck too much of the fun out of discussins there. Everytime when you post your own thread they redirect you to the most similar thread in the Tread Directory and even when you get a little out of line with their strict TOS they threaten to ban you for frivolous things.

What do you think of starwars.com in general?

In case you’ve never visited, here it is:

starwars.com

I’ll mention more later when I have time.

Da, da da dada dada da da da da dada dada da dada da da. Daaaaaa Daaaaa daa da dada da da dada. Daaa Daaaaa Da da dada da da dada. Daa! Daa! da da da dada dadada dadada daa da daaa da daaa da daaa...

Welcome aboard.

I've never posted on the official sites boards, but they sound as lame as Tf.n. I once got a warning there because I said I was posting Episode IV spoilers. Idiots.

I think the official boards are worse than TFN.

I hardly ever go to the official site. Most of the breaking news is on TFN before it's on the official site, so I usually head there first. Otherwise, I don't go there much, if at all.

I posted on the SW.com boards once. It was actually the first day of their existence and people were trying to see how much they could get away with as there was only like one or two mods, including Ghent IIRC. All I really remember was Chyren spamming up the place and people testing out which words could slip past the word filter. Ah, fun times.

I don't think I've been back since that day.

The biggest problem with SW sites now is that you have 2 distinct trilogies that can have a diehard fanbase, but the problem is they both have to post on SW sites now. The majority of SW fans now that populate SW sites are Saga fans and OT fans, and we are debating the same movies in different contexts. If you are talking saga 1-6, then Leia is talking about her mom dying at childbirth to Luke in ROTJ, yet if you are strictly talking OOT 4-6 talk, then you can rationalize that she took Leia in exile and died very young.

There lies the problem is that you a set of OT movies that can be interpreted in 2 different ways as to before the PT and after the PT, yet we all have to come to a Star Wars site to talk, so you essentially are debating issues in the movies that some deem exist and some say they didn't happen cause they don't recognize the PT.

That is why I like the individual sites now like OT.com where we are blantant about our views, we love the OOT, we talk in context of the OOT, we hate the SE, and we always talk about how the PT could have been better. The problem with SW.com and TFN is that they are blantant PT(saga) fans, and that is fine with me, but they say they want all views of the movies, including SW '77 fans, OOT fans, yet they are the ones who are censored or shouted down because they don't conform to the Saga now.

My point is that you can call us bias if you want, but just check out the name of the site when you log on here and it will give you an idea of what people think, SW.com and TFn are just propaganda for 'PT.com or Saga1-6.com.

I've never posted on either the official site of TF.net. I just come here first when I wanna read up on anything Star Wars. It's a smaller, less intensely and rediculously moderated community were posts critical of SW aren't seen as some sort of personal attack on the people talking about it. At least that's what I gather from discussion I've heard about those sites.

Now I know to stay the hell away from the OS's MB. I was curious.

In all honesty, up until the GOUT debacle I thought it was a cool site. That "what has changed?" thing, where they blatantly gave you the impression that the OOT would be 16:9 enhanced when the non-anamorphic news had already broke, that just infuriated me. LFL, it's so simple and yet apparently so complicated.

I left TFN when the OOT was announced as being 'non anamorphic' and I tried to educate all of the fans who didn't understand it that it was going to be crappy quality, and it was an insult to anyone with a DVD player. I was astonished that a majority of people over told me, "Stop complaining cause you will never be happy with what Lucas puts out." and "You OOT fans are getting what you deserved!" That is when I realized that these were different SW fans then me, and I left the site for good.

I quote this for truth; you've summed up my opinion very well.
Hey, can you read people's minds over the internet?

I left, the message boards, for the same reason that someone above posted. They say they want all points of view, but if you knock the PT in any way, they come down hard on you. Don't knock the PT, the SEs, or any other changes because "they're all a part of Uncle George's grand vision". They are what I call, "If it says Star Wars, it's perfect no matter what" fans. There's no reasoning with them because as far as they're concerned, the whole thing makes sense and any explanations given by Lucas are Gospel, whether they make rational sense or not.

The only thing good that came out of the PT is that Boba Fett no longer has the worst death scene in a Star Wars movie

Yeah, I lurked on a few other sites around the same time I found this one. It only took reading a few topics over there to see they aren't open to any sort of independent thought, and certainly not the truth about Star Wars or Lucas.

You better get on board with drinking the Kool Aid over there or you'll be hammered mercilessly. Truthfully, the amount of Lucas' lying and revisionist history they'll accept is shocking. It's as though they've completely abandoned the desire to think for themselves.

The truth about Star Wars is readily available, in the form of original scripts and interviews, to anyone who is interested. However, they not only don't want to know the truth, but they become almost violent with people who mention it's existence. It's like some sort of skewed type of Stockholm syndrome.
