Just because you ignore them, doesn't make them go away.

I can ignore everything from after a certain point in time... let's say, 1997

Well OT.com was started in 2003, so if you ignore that, then you can't be here.

Let me qualify that. Everything that happened in Lucasland since '97 I will attempt to blot out of my mind, leaving only the OOT and parts of the EU.

He did it because one of episode III's sub-plot's is going to require Hayden at the end of ROTJ or Lucas' explanation for Jedi ghosts won't make any sense. YES be prepared to be very pissed off with the half assed explanation he's cooked up for this whole disappearing/ghost jedi thing.

It wouldn't surprise me. The "ghost" concept has been half-assed since ANH, because Obi-wan wasn't originally supposed to die.

He wasn't?

Weird. I can't imagine what could have been Luke's emotional catalyst if that had happened.

You ain't growing the extra six or seven inches that Hayden needs to be of the same stature as David Prowse. The only way they're explaining this one away is that Anakin's extremities get burned away or otherwise destroyed in his saber fight with Obi Wan or the aftermath (I'm trying to avoid saying it for those who don't already have an idea) and that his Vaderlegs (TM) are longer than his Anilegs (TM). That's the only way to explain it because, HotRod, I'm sorry, people don't grow between the ages of 18 and 38 or 48 or 58, etc. The only direction that people grow after 18 is out, not up. And then, eventually, they lose height due to compression of the discs in your vertebrae. I hit six feet tall when I was 16 or 17 and I was done. That's it.

bossk that is not always the case, some ppl keep growing till they are 20 or even 21, also between 18 and 21 ppl dont grow in height but they do grow in bulk, shoulders tend to get wider and more bulky.

dont forget he is the choosen one, he is not normal even as it is.

i know what you mean.

I don't. But still it is a goof.

Anakin was 10 in TMP, and was 20 in AoTC, so by RotS, he should be 23, and therefore have stopped growing.

ever put a big ski jacket on chaltab, when you do you look like twice the size. your shoulders are broader and you look bigger. it could be the same way with vaders suit.
Author
Time
Well, no, but by the proportions of the suit when Luke removes the mask, it seems the suit about as tight as casual clothing and wouldn't add that much bulk.

not that i support (or dont support) the casting of Hayden as Anakin (actual not sure how i feel about it). But you people do have to remember that Han, Luke, Leia, Anakin, Obi-Wan, et al. Are not necessarily human, they're bodies dont necessarily behave the same way as ours do...remember the first line you see when ANH starts 'A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far, Far Away...'

though even taking that in to account, it really doesnt make sense that someone that has been so mauled/disfigured (falling into lava does that) would grow...build muscle mass maybe, i mean their technology is much better than ours (bacta tank) but as far as growing taller thing I think id have to agree that maybe he would gain 3-6 inches from the suit (think about it, boots add height, thickness of the helmet, space between top of his head and the helmet), but thats it. Dont feel like looking back for what the actual height difference that needs to be made up is, so not sure if that would do it, but its food for thought.

Why Anakin really turned to the dark side:
"Anakin, You're father I am" - Yoda
"No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!" - Anakin

Growth in terms of bulk was never in question here. Yes, he can bulk up all he wants from here to eternity, but it's not going to add 6-7 inches in height to his frame. And, even if people still do grow up until they're 20-21 as you claim, I've never seen someone grow that much at that age.

Chosen one only when it comes to being a Jedi and that means he is more capable mentally. Being a chosen Jedi doesn't mean that JediGod has endowed you with growth spurt abilities.

There's also the possibility that the rebuilt cybernetic body is taller than the human body it replaced.

Yeah. Earlier I stated that would likely be the only way to explain away the difference in stature if he bothers to do it at all. "He" being GL, of course.

I still think that Hayden looks to small to be Vader. The problem isn't so much that his size difference could be explained, it is that in the movie, he going to look too small. This is supposed to be DARTH VADER! Not Dirth Nader.

Anyway, I hope I am wrong about how he'll look in the movie.

'HE'S MORE MACHINE NOW, THAN MAN. TWISTED AND EVIL'

everything about Darth Vader is designed to instill fear and be menacing, from his helmet, cape, his deep electronically enhanced voice, it would make sense that the Emperor rebuilt him to have a larger and more powerful build, afterall if had the same genetics as his son, he'd be 'a little short for a stormtrooper!'

as far as Hayden appearing in the suit, I beleive it is explained in one of the featurettes on the DVD box set that they actually scaled down the suit to fit his body, and with a bit of careful lighting and camera angles, he'll appear as big and nasty as David Prowse in the original trilogy.
