Hateful 8 Roadshow Cut — Page 3

Those contractual obligations do not apply for Nolan, Michael Bay and the Marvel filmmakers, but only for Zack Snyder and Brad Bird? Nah, I think it’s the filmmakers’ choice. They derive some secret pleasure from not allowing us to watch the superior versions, he he he.
This is why I would like to avoid versions which I will likely not be able to see at home. Because there is always that lingering disappointment. At least in my case.

Does the 4K version suffer from PAL-shifted audio? I’m not the best with such things as discerning pitch.

Also, was the 5.1 English track from the US BD (highest quality in world, thus far) ever properly synced to it, or does it sync already?

According to my ears, it does. Honestly, though, I can’t be 100% sure.

Just for those wondering, I never said that was it, I’m only saying that might be it.

Fingers crossed it at least includes the extra scenes added for the roadshow cut. I found better title card references if the missing footage can be found.

I saw the 70mm Roadshow version at Odeon Leicester Square and after learning about this situation, I’m very much glad that I got to enjoy the film in its full glory. If I’d purchased the Blu-ray, I would have been extremely disappointed not to receive the best cut. We’ll know for certain on Monday as to whether Netflix have the extended version. Fingers crossed. 😃

How is it?

It’s not the roadshow cut, guys. It’s a new “miniseries” edit in 4 episodes. It might be able to be edited to conform to the roadshow cut if we have a solid bootleg reference of that version, though. I dunno.

Thanks for the heads up.

It’s insane just how difficult it can be to obtain the best version of a film.

Apparently it contains all the extra roadshow cut footage, plus more on top of that.

More? Additional footage not seen even in the Roadshow version?

edit: when all additional episode opening/closing credits, along with new episode titles, are removed,
it gets to 3hrs 6 min movie.

From the comments of that article:

The new version doesn’t have the blue 70mm TWC logo, Cinerama logo, overture, intermission, and the entr’acte (with the Crystal Gayle song).

Instead, there’s a recap in the beginning of 2~4 parts, showing a scene from the previous part. The Jesus cross opening titles and closing credits are shown in all 4 parts.

This version contains the chicken plucking scene from the 70mm roadshow, but contains the regular multiplex version of the Daisy guitar scene with the crank shot in the beginning.
What surprised me the most was that there’s an entirely new footage that I have never seen before, during the Channing Tatum flashback section. It’s not even in 70mm and regular versions.

And:

This “extended cut” never played in theaters. The roadshow had an overture, the use of the Crystal Gayle song “Ready for the Times to Get Better” and Daisy Domergue playing the guitar was in one uninterrupted take (none of which are in this). What this is is something entirely different.

It’s a shame a DCP has never surfaced of this cut. The idea that this was a roadshow exclusive was a bit of a misnomer - several theaters which only projected digital showed the extended “roadshow” cut.

It’s how I saw it, at least. I’m not positive how prevalent it was, but I saw it at a second-run theater for about $3. It was by far the superior version.

This isn’t the roadshow cut, though. It’s much closer to it, but there are still differences.

Any chance this version might be preserved? I really love the extra scenes.
I saw the Roadshow over 10 times, one could make a close approximation using the mini series version. There are a couple alternate shots used in some scenes, so it wouldn’t be 100% accurate.

I haven’t seen the miniseries yet, but for those of you who have: Would it make any sense to filter out the new extra scenes and try to insert them into the film making some sort of “Comprehensive Cut”?

You know, getting rid of all the edits for the miniseries (previews, etc.) and just putting the new stuff into the film…
