I don't know what you're going off of, but in another thread, someone mentioned some deleted lines, etc. from the first movie. I do have a crappy quality cam bootleg of it (it's an avi file) and made a comparison of the scenes in question and found that at least in the US, the DVDs are the exact same film as the theatrical versions.

I just want them for my collection more then anything to be honest (can I get a copy of that AVI?). I'd also like to confirm the alleged alternate lines (I don't recall them)

Either way, I can't wait!

Sorry but no edit just a straight transfer of the ABC cut, the teleysyncs are for my collection.

Hey there gang!

I finished up the ABC Extended version the other night. It’s a straight transfer from a set-top recorder from my D* DVR, I created both dual and single layer DVD's of this, not sure of which version I’ll upload but we’ll see

I'll update this and the torrent thread once it's up!

HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCEROR'S STONE
"ABC Television Extended Edition"

"It will be the first time the movie has been seen this way."
- Warner Bros. spokesperson.

On May 9, 2004 television network ABC, presented “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone” in a four hour telecast that featured the extended version of the film. Director Chris Columbus added the majority of the deleted footage back into the theatrical version of the film to create the ABC television edit. Although this recording of the extended version was broadcast on ABC’s sister station ABC Family in 2006 it features the same edit of the film.

This completely unauthorized fan preservation project was created without the knowledge or consent of either the ABC Network or original copyright holders. Please do not support piracy; you must own the official DVD to protect your license.

Cool stuff Rikter. Not sure which one I'm looking forward to most - this or the Wizard People. Awaiting the upload with baited breath...
where have i been all this time ?

Rikter, in the first line of your post you refer to it as the CBS broadcast.

So I'm guessing this is a PDTV capture. Do we have full 5.1 sound? Did you edit in the missing parts into a DVD rip or is it 100% capture with only menus from the DVD?

Edit: Anyone notice that Rikter sort of hijacked this thread? Fine be me though.
If you don't put the Dual Layer on MySpleen, what will be the best method for getting a copy?

- HAHA!! I had the same problem figuring which to upload!!! BUT "Wizard People" is the first to be uploaded as I did add the soundtrack to the voice-over and I really dig how it came out (I just wish there was a complete score!) I'm also THINKING about making myself a copy of The Philosopher's Stone DVD using the isolated soundtrack that I used for this DVD

- DOH!!! Corrected that - It is from the ABC broadcast (well ABC Family ) but not the original 2004 broadcast (I deleted that off my TiVo a few years back!) but either way it's the same CBS extended edit/cut/version

- Nope sorry man but it's not a PDTV capture just DVR to DVD recorder (sold my capture cards!), no 5.1 as it was only broadcast in Dolby Stereo (it triggers my Pro-logic receiver) I don't think it was ever broadcast in 5.1 but then I don't have HDTV so I'm not sure. No, I did no editing (that's not my thing so I'll never do a film edit) so it's just a 100% DVR capture. I did use the DVD to create the menus but I only used 30 second clips for the looped video.

- I just saw no need for multiple posts on the same subject.

- I may just upload the single layer versions of the HP DVD's as I still have about another 20 DVD's that were sent to me to upload, the smaller they are the fast I can upload more stuff as for getting a copy... I'm taking trades or donations for copies if requested (just email me for full details)

A straight copy from a DVDr will still blow the doors off my crappy VHS copy.

Hmm, so now I'm thinking a re-edit synced with the DVD 5.1 audio track and the extra bits upmixed... must.... not.... start... new... project.

Hmmmmmmmmm..... sounds intriguing

But man, you have no idea how many times I've kicked that around while I had all the files on my PC, but it was an MPEG. THEN I thought well I could use the DVD and attempt to completely re-make the ABC TV cut using the extra footage on the second DVD and also replicate the commercial fade-outs and in's and use them as the chapters (like I did) add the isolated soundtrack (Man, I really should have wrote down the marker cues from "Wizard People" or at least save a project file!!) I had to end up using some DL'd MP3's as the used CD (complete score CD's please!!) I bought WOULD PLAY but I could only rip a few songs off it (lots of minor scuffs so I need to get another CD) - THEN I thought that I could rip my Philosopher’s Stone DVD and use the correct title instead & add the Philosopher’s Stone trailers (I did add those!) then release it as the proper extended version!

Sadly I don't have the HD room or the skills to edit a film...

Out of curiousity, what aspect ratio is the film in?

It was only ever aired in 4:3

Hmm, why did I think it was letterboxed for the HD broadcast.

I'm really liking the sound of it now. Rip the audio and video into Womble. Replace all audio and video sections with DVD clips that match, and those that don't replace with ABC clips and upmixed audio.

But then again if it's 4x3 that means either the extra bits must be cropped to look 16x9 or the pan and scan DVD needs to be used. I don't particularly like either answer there. I suppose maybe 4-side black borders on the ABC clips would be ok, but that'd be a small picture.

It may have been for HD but that's about 6 years away for me still so it just standard 4x3. As for a re-creation I would say to use the fullscreen DVD but there will be video quality issues from jumping back and forth then there are the onscreen dog/bug's and some of them have that all new and interesting animated dog's (mini animation for an upcoming show that runs on the bottom 1/5 of the screen)

In theory if the Pan and Scan DVD was used I could crossfade from the offical disc to the tv clips and back again.
I don't know.
I probably won't do this because every time I do an edit I end up hating the films because I've seen it too many times when I'm through.
I prefer not to hate the Harry Potter films.

Cropping this to match for widescreen may work better with this title since it was shot in Super 35 and the fullscreen image contains additional video info at the top at bottom.

ShiftyEyes, your post floored me, so I had to check for myself.
Below are captures from the Widescreen DVD and my (crappy) VHS copy of the ABC Edit. (I think you can tell which is which.)

http://adventureclub.postrock.net/wide.jpg
http://adventureclub.postrock.net/ps.jpg

And the verdict is yes and no. While there is obviously more picture above and below in the pan and scan edition, there is also more left and right in the letterbox transfer.

Now the ABC edit could very well be different from official P&S DVD, but I don't have that to make a comparison. Can anyone confirm or deny that it has the same cropping?

Not from the DVD (gee the ABC logo gave it away huh ) but I tried to get the same frame...

Okay, I was WAY wrong! I found out that they did broadcast HP1 in HD on 2/4/06

HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERERS STONE IN HDTV:

The ABC Television Networks HDTV broadcast of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone will air in 720 Progressive (720P), ABCs selected HDTV format and 5.1-channel surround sound and with Spanish audio.

ANYONE have the .TS files??

This is usually the case with Super 35. The fullscreen has more on the top and bottom, but the sides are also cropped. Don't know too much about the format, but I guess the "full" picture would be somewhere between the 2.35:1 and 1.33:1 aspect ratios.

Interestingly, with the first Harry Potter movie, visual effects were created for the full image - not just for widescreen so there's still additional picture for the CGI heavy sequences as well. All this came to light after some HP fans made some comparisons and argued over which was better. There's one shot in particular which got some debate. It's when the first years are in the boat and the camera pans up to reveal the Hogwarts castle for the first time. In the fullscreen version, you can see the kids and the castle in the same shot, but in the widescreen, it's either one or the other as it pans up. I naturally go with the original theatrical aspect ratio, but the additional video info lessens the nausea of watching the movie in fullscreen.

On the other hand, the fullscreen version of the third film is supposedly the ugly pan & scan despite the fact the movie was apparently shot in Super 35.
