Harry Potter *Spoilers* (Serious Discussions Only, No Flaming) — Page 7

You seem to be assuming that the Godric Gryffindor sword theory is based around it becoming a Horcrux through Harry's encounter with Tom Riddle in The Chamber of Secrets. I think that's too large an assumption. Besides, that would be requiring one horcrux to make another horcrux, and I don't know if that's even possible.

And about things being too obvious... well, you have to think that Rowling came up with these ideas over a decade ago, long before she had fans who could figure out what was going to happen. But people have been analyzing these things for so long that they're bound to eventually stumble onto a real idea. Think how many people guessed that Dumbledore was going to die in Book 6.

If RAB is Regulus Black, then he won't be able to get the other horcruxes in book 7. He's dead.

I seriously think that the final book will take place almost immediately after the end of the previous book (i.e. June or July 1997) for two reasons.

1. It will be kind of hard to call Book 7 "Year 7" if it takes place in some other time frame.
2. Since Harry said he was only going to stop by the Dursley's just for one last recharge of his love protection and then immediately start on his quest, it seems like extremely important parts of the story would be lost if we skipped a year or two years or whenever after Dumbledore died.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Don't forget, in the Chamber, the memory of Riddle did not kill anybody, so another horcrux could not have been created at that time. I think he did want to make Gryffindor's sword a horcrux but was unable to get it. We shall see.

The killing of James and Lily could have allowed him to make Harry a horcrux, but I think he was waiting for Harry's death to split his soul for the final time. Thus I think his soul didn't get the final split until the beginning of GOF, at which time Nagini was probably made a horcrux. Dumbledore kinda explains all this and I buy it until otherwise noted.

I'm still on this notion Shim said of Hogwarts as a horcrux. Destroy the school in order to destroy Voldemort. That is just the coolest idea. Much more meaningful for Harry than Gryffindor's sword.

OMG

your probably right about the time frame thing. as for the 7 horcrux being made after GOF i really dont think so. it remains to be seen though, as for RAB regulas could have destroyed more then just one horcrux b4 he died. its possible that a bunch of them are gone.

Here's another reason I have to think that Book 7 will follow the same time scheme as the others.

After Harry's next visit, he will most likely not have any reason (or desire) to ever return to the Dursleys'. Rowling has already said that there's more to Petunia than meets the eye. Hopefully it will explain why they kept Harry all that time when they hated him, and he was always inadvertantly causing horrible things to them (Aunt Marge, Ton-Tongue Toffee, Dudley Demented). But, anyway, unless Petunia suddenly rides in on a broom and kills Voldemort herself, I'm thinking her part of the story will have to come in at the beginning, which would be right after the end of the 6th book.

I did a bad thing today. My kids were bugging me to find out who gets killed at the end of the book (one's reading it, the other one is in line to read it next). I told them that it was Gilderoy Lockhart who got killed, that he was a Death Eater all along, and had used his skill with memory charms to conceal that fact. I also told them that the other Death Eaters had conspired to spring him from St. Mungo's and had successfully broken the memory charms on him so that he could remember. When they asked me who killed him, I told them it was Neville.

Gee, ain't I a stinker?

Yes, they believed me.
