I need advice on video converting..

Forgive my ignorance, but Im new to video editing. I have the TN1 Silverscreen restore and want to burn to BD to watch on my projector. I have read several different “how to’s” of the best way to convert the MKV to an editable file type. What is the best lossless conversion method? I tried converting with ANyVideo Converter, but after reviewing the original MKV side by side to the .AVI file, I could see differences. Any help woild be much appreciated.

uhh, your using a crappy editing program then(pinnacle studio?). mkv is just as editable as any other format.

I’m using Premire Pro. It doesnt support MKV, nor do most mainstream editing software. I cant understand why there isnt a simple way to convert the MKV, without losing quality, so that fans can create there own menus and burn to blu ray. I should rephrase that, Im sure theres a fairly easy way, but I havent found that answer yet. Ive done several conversions, some horrible, and others so-so. My problem is that Im color blind, so its tough for me to see if the conversion affects the color. Heres one conversion I tried. Can you tell which is the MKV and which isnt?

tsMuxeR GUI will let you remux the MKV as a TS file - Premiere Pro should import that happily enough, though long h.264 streams tend to get clunky (to say the least).

That said, it’s not clear from your posts why you need to edit it at all - tsMuxeR will also remux to a BD folder to simply burn to a disc without any messing, if that’s all you need to do.

Yeh, thats what I used. One bit of confusion I had was, in all the tutorials it states to choose the “burn to BluRay” option if you want to that. But in my version, it only gives the “BluRay ISO and BluRay Folder” options. If I just want to remux and burn straight to BluRay as is, which option do I choose?
The reason I want to import into Premiere, is so I can add a menu with chapter selections. I was under the impression I can do that in tsMuxeR, but I havent really messed with tsMuxeR GUI much, so Im sure Ill get more familiar with it. Thanks for your help.

What do yall suggest for burning to BD? Ive seen imgBurn and Nero suggested, but it seems somehow, malware and crap is always attached to these freeware type programs. I have an old copy of Nero, dont know if itll work and I havent DLed imgBurn yet.

The folder/image choice makes little difference in your case - I tend to opt for folder so I can test the project before burning it.

tsMuxeR is only able to ‘author’ a single video for simple playback from disc - if you want menus and multiple clips, you’ll need to use a more elaborate authoring app (e.g. Adobe Encore, which you presumably have access to with Premiere).

ImgBurn should work perfectly for the burning side of things - not sure where you think you’re getting malware from but if you download from one of the official mirrors (http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download&) and make sure you deselect any ‘extras’ during installation, you should be all good.

Thanks. I did a test convert using tsMuxeR and burned to a BD. From what I can see, everything looks great. I can definitely see a difference from the BluRay version. The color palatte is much more true to form and the graininess of film is too cool.
