Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released) — Page 79

Part of me actually wants to see them arranged by amount donated...  That might be a fun way to do it, and I know I've wondered how I stack up compared to other donators.  (Not to be confused as my saying donation amounts should be listed next to names.)

Just a thought.

Oh, no, they are just in the order in which the donations came. I will probably try to put them into alphabetic order. Anyone know how to do this easily? I have them as a simple .txt file.
Copy them into a spreadsheet program, sort A-Z. Should work. If you don't want to do it, just PM them to me.

@chyron: Well, while this problem isn't completely gone, I would say it is definitelly diminished in the new version - here are the v1.0 shots you posted and the same shots as they appear in the workprint:

@doubleKO: The saturation issues have already been tackled (although in case of the unzoomed shots there may still be an occasional discrepancy here and there but it should definitely be lessened) and the Lando announcement shot is taken from a faded 35mm print, so it was pretty hard to get the colors looking even this good.

@bouvines:

The logo is the same one as in SW v2.5 and it's sourced from the BD of Alien.

As to why I decided to re-create the subs from scratch - well this is currently the best source available to me - and I mean literally that specific Daily Motion video.

Harmy, you nailed the reds, and Lando looks really good!

I can do that for you.  Just PM it to me.

Can't look at it till I get home, but whatever you've done I'm surprised it happened this quickly.

Also, what do you guys think?  Arrange the donation credits based on donation amount?  I think it would be fun to see it that way.

Author

That is a definite NO! For one, I value all the donations and it wasn't a competition. And also, do you really expect me to spend hours going through all the donations ranking them by the amount donated? Not all the donors wished to be in the credits by their paypal name, so that would make it twice as hard to identify them, plus the donations were in like 10 different currencies, so I'd have to count how much the different donations really were. There's just no way.

Didn't think it would be as difficult to rank as it sounds, I guess I was assuming it was all noted down in a spreadsheet with the converted values to your local denomination (if that's what paypal shows you on the receiving end) next to names...  A text file of names you'd have to match up to donations in multiple currencies this long after the fact, yeah, that'd be a hassle.  It was just a thought, stemming from my wondering how my donation stacked up to others, more comparison than competition, really.

Thanks for fixing those lights. They look fantastic now.

Also, I think the honorable mention credits should be sorted in order of the number of posts each person has made in this thread, and where that number is equal, they should then be sorted by the distance each person lives from Harmy.  :P

(I'm kidding. I'm neither serious nor do I mean offense.)

Yeah, I agree with Harmy on this one.  Showing what each person donated would be slapping it in the faces of the ones who either didn't send in a comparable amount or couldn't afford to.  I know that's not your intentions (at least I hope not) but some people would take it that way.

Alphabetized is probably best. (send me the file, Harmy, if you still need that done)

Really a bad idea. Personally I gave a bit less than I wanted, but what I could

I didn't say it was a good idea, just a fun idea.

@zer0squared: When I first brought it up I tried really hard to be clear that I didn't mean for donation amounts to be displayed, just names put in an order based on it.  I don't mean to belittle anyone's generosity (which, displayed amounts would definitely cause, since that alone doesn't tell a whole story), I just thought it would be neat having it ordered by who was able to donate the most to the cause.

Just made a donation - hope it's not too late to come in useful.

Author

Don't feel bad.  I had to wait til I could afford it myself and just sent him a donation.  Like I said to him in my message, "Better late than never!"

Keep up the great work, Harmy!

P.S. My name will be easy to add.  Just put me at the bottom. :)

Much appreciated guys - it seems the returning of the broken motherboard won't work out (they found that some of the pins on the CPU bed were slightly bent and tey said I must have done it and gave it as a reason to not refund me for the mobo, even though I'm convinced it can't possibly be what was causing the problems, which didn't appear until I put in the additional RAM), so this will help a little to cover the cost of the new one.

I'm not able to contribute right now, but definitely will in the near future. Really worth it.

 You're most welcome.

And I don't know where or who you're getting your motherboard from but that sounds like a pretty shady reason to not replace it.  If it worked at one time and all you did was add RAM, you didn't touch the bed after that.  Anyway, any reputable dealer would only need to ship the board back to the manufacturer and get a credit - it's not like they're losing money on it. (sigh)

I had exactly the same problem a few years ago  Never went back to that store.

Wow, just wow Harmy, that lightsaber sequence looks absolutely incredible.  I can't believe you got that level of improvement done that quickly...  So, how did you end up doing it?  Rotoscoping I'd expect would take a while...

Also, that sucks about the motherboard, especially since you were one of the few people not trying to screw them, but honestly having a problem.  So, I'm not familiar with modern Intel stuff (when I build myself, I go AMD, but I get a lot of used Intel or Intel in laptops), do they not put pins on the processor anymore but on the motherboard?  I have a 2 x quad core Xeon server here (that's 2 processors, 8 physical cores, and incredibly cheap to buy...) that seems to do it that way.  Actually, it is funny, mine is technically supposed to be a low voltage variant, but a bit of electrical tape over a "pin" on each processor allows the FSB to go at full speed, therefore the processors run like the non low voltage version.  Anyway, I wasn't expecting to see that manufacturing process outside of server grade stuff...

Author
Time

Hrm....  If I were to complain, I'm not sure if it should be that the moment he turns on the lightsaber is slightly less blue than later, or that while he is cutting himself down from the hanging position (around the time of the flash) that the saber is slightly more blue than the scenes immediately after...

Overall it looks beyond good and is ultimately acceptable, but this is still the opinion of outside eyes seeing possible consistency issues...

Author
Time

Yeah, I guess the consistency isn't 100% but I'd say it's good enough now.

Oh, BTW, I got a green light from Team Negative 1 to say that the 35mm scans come from them. So, thanks Team Negative 1 - without you, the quality of this edit would be much lower, because those shots were the most obvious despecializations in there :-)

^ Not that it wasn't a good job, but I won't miss Lando's mouth moving independently from the rest of his face that's for sure!

That may well be, that the more monochromatic version looks more right to you but I assume we can agree that the new version is closer to the GOUT and 97SE references in that regard, right?

Do you mean in regard to skin tones? Yeah I realized I was wrong before you posted the comparison. Overall it is much closer to the 97SE, but the tauntaun/clothing seem to have even more red than the GOUT at times. Nobody else seems to have issues with the new colours though, so just ignore me! Bummer about the motherboard.
