Yes, that's what I assumed. And then I had to adjust the GOUT footage to the same speed and that's where the issues are the worst...

OK, the RS upload of STAR WARS PARTLY DESPECIALIZED EDITION is finally finished, so I PMd everyone who expressed their interest. If there's anyone else just PM me :-)

OK, here's the nfo.

STAR WARS: PARTLY DESPECIALIZED EDITION 1080p

NAME: Star.Wars.1080p.PARTLY.DESPECIALIZED.Harmy.mkv

This is largely based on Adywan’s work (I used  Ady's AVCHD of ep.IV as the main source and a few shots from ANH:Revisited and GOUT.) I used the 2.0 soundtrack from GOUT and adjusted and trimmed the AVCHD to fit to it, so I virtually recreated the theatrical cut. Then I also replaced some of the most glaring CGI and other offending changes with either the GOUT or ANH:R where Adywan did it (Ronto blocking the view of stormies stoping the speeder and the flying droid in the same scene and the two censored shots of the imperials being shot).

The quality difference between the sources is unfortunately quite noticeable but I still prefer watching this over any other version out there as it’s HD for the most part and it’s a lot closer to the original.

I also adjusted the original Czech dubbing to this because I want my little brother (and some time in the future my kids, although I'm hoping that by that time there will be a proper Blu-Ray release of the OOT) to be able to watch STAR WARS in a better way than the old fullscreen VHS.

And I added the audio description track as a little bonus but unfortunatelly I didn't manage to sync it very well.

The colors on Jedi are almost finished. The music number is done and I decided in the end to just replace the Sarlacc shots with the originals because I just couldn't get the beak removal to work to my liking because of the telecine wobble on GOUT, so that's finished too.

Now I really need someone to post the 97 SE ending to RS for me, PLEASE!!! I want the best quality source possible for the original Anakin ghost and I can't find TB or KGar Jedi anywhere. Could someone PLEASE just extract those few seconds of the ghosts from either one of those and post a clip to RS. PRETTY PLEASE!!!

Here's a new clip from ROTJ:PDE. It is the Lapti Nek scene. It is for the most part just upscaled GOUT but I think it's quite ok...

I don't care how you did that Harmy, it looks pretty damn good to me.

I am actually looking forward to ROTJ the most as there aren't really many edits of ROTJ that do the stuff you are doing/have done.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

When someone finishes downloading SW, please let me know if everything works as it should, thanks.

Here's the whole Sarlacc pit scene partly despecialized. There will be some minor differences (hopefully improvements) in the final version but this is what it's gonna be for the most part.

OK, I finished a workprint of Jedi. Here are a few samples of the color correction:

Note that it's just a work in progress. Seeing the pictures side by side makes me think I may have gone a bit too far in places but I think it is an improvement.

Thanks to Grisan and consequently Darth Mallwalker for posting the links for the orig. Anakin ghost, it's awesome!!!

Here is the final version of Return of the Jedi Partly Despecialized Edition ending with a better version of the ghosts.

Harmy , are all the edits suffering from frame rate issues or  are you planning to fix these issues. The edits look fantastic .

No, TESB and ROTJ are fine, it's just in STAR WARS. . But I'm affraid I won't be able to do anything about it. But the framerate issues in SW are rather minor, I already watched it and it was OK.

So has anyone finished downloading yet? I'd like to know if everything works as it should.

you might have scared people off when you mentioned frame rate issues, did you ever fix those?

also did you say you are doing your color correcting with AE? if so how are you doing it? I am very new to AE and your screens look pretty good.

Author
Time

No, I'm doing the correction straight in Power Director, it's not always perfect but it should be an improvement.

Question for Jedi (the one I'm most interested in):

Are you going to include a 5.1 mix?

EDIT: nvm, I see you're using the GOUT audio.

This video shows exactly what STAR WARS looks like (exept for the YOUTUBE compression f*ck-up), like I say, the frame rate issues are rather minor.

Author

I'm actually considering making a 5.1 mix but there are some scenes that would have to be put in from GOUT anyway. Like I said before, I'm not much of a sound editor and also at the moment I don't have a 5.1 setup so I couldn't really test it but I might still give it a shot.

You're using power director? hmmm.

a few questions. How did you change the framerate of my ANH ACHD to 23.976fps from 24fps?  Because to me it looks like your method is the reason for the framerate issues. You should have used TSMuxer to convert the m2ts framerate as this does nothing but change the framerate and does not re-encode the video. Also, just looked at the ANH sample in your link above and i'm curious to know why the transition wipe at the entrance to Mos Eisley is so bad. Why did you change the source of the video?

One last thing. I had a look at one of your ESB PDS videos where you show many of the changes and you have put that these are changes that YOU made. But they are taken directly from the reconstruction shots that I made for my ESB theatrical. I would appreciate it if you would change this as it makes it look like you are taking credit for my work

Ooops, sorry, I guess I didn't realize that there will be people looking at that video who didn't read this thead. You know I wouldn't want to take credit for your work, right? Anyway, it's fixed now.

And yeah, I guess I could have done a better job on STAR WARS but I've learned so much since then ;-) When I was working on it, I didn't even realize that the frame rate could be an issue. I think both Empire and Jedi will be better.
