It only plays in BD players, if I'm not mistaken...

Depends what he downloaded. But yes, no need to waste more discs if it means attempting AVHCD discs in standard DVD players.

Either way, it shouldn't be burning the .iso file to the disc as a file.

If "write image to disc" really was the method used (and not files/folders), I don't know why that would happen.

Oh, true. Good catch. I just assumed a DL disc would be the AVHCD...

To my knowledge, there's no dual-layer, standard DVD version. The only DVD release is the DVD5 (single-layer).

If the burned disc just contains a copy of the .iso file, then something went wrong with how you wrote it.  Also, you can't think of it as "converting" anything, a .iso is simply an image of a disc, it contains all the stuff that should end up on a working disc.  Furthermore, if you were accurate in your statement that you want to play it in a DVD player (as opposed to a Blu-ray player), then it won't work even if you burn it correctly, as AVCHD (which is the structure contained in the .iso) is basically a Blu-ray sort of format and will require a Blu-ray player.  The AVCHD is a lower bitrate, but still HD, version of this project intended to allow for cheaper DVD+/-R DL discs to be used rather than BD-R discs.  If you want a version to play in a DVD player, you'll need the DVD-5 standard definition version.

I would greatly appreciate a myspleen invite if anyone is willing. Thank you!

Encouraging is a positive thing, and that's what I do.

Encouraging people to ignore the first post is not a positive thing.

In my earlier post when I said I wanted to burn a dual layered DVD with the .iso file and play it in my DVD player, I had no idea what I was talking about. Back then when I read Harmy's first post saying that the .iso could also be put on a dual layered DVD and would play in most Blu-ray players, I thought that meant that it would play in all DVD players and also most Blu-Ray players. I didn't really have any knowledge about this stuff. But recently I was talking with Erik Pancakes and he explained everything to me.

So thanks again to Erik Pancakes, and also to everyone who responded, and especially to Harmy for brilliantly re-creating these awesome movies, and to Chewtobacca who made the officially-sanctioned DVD5 versions. I ordered some Verbatim DVD-R discs and can't wait to burn them with the beautiful Despecialized Editions!!! :-D

I'd suggest the same, but for some people that isn't feasible for other, non-cost-related reasons. For instance, my uncle doesn't own an HDTV, so he has no need for a BR player, and as most (all?) BR players are HDMI-only now, he wouldn't be able to use one anyway, so I gave him DVD-5 copies.

But anyway, glad I was able to help you, Bobby D! Enjoy!

Good idea Harmy. I might get one just to watch your Despecialized Editions in the best quality possible!

I found my own (easy but yow-expensive) solution. I was giving myself a Mac mini for Christmas anyway. So:

mini -> HDMI -> TV

and I'm watching the Despecialized Edition via VLC Player. I don't recommend you take the route I did, but as others have just described, each of you will find your own unique solution for any technical obstacles that are encountered. (Recall that my cheap, old Samsung Blu-ray player could not understand the audio format in V2.5.) Anyway, I'm a happy boy. As countless others have said, thank you, Harmy.

The DVD-5 is great! Up until now I've been watching the OOT courtesy of the old TR47 ld transfers, so even thought the DVD-5 version is downscaled, it's a gigantic improvement in quality. The DVD version also has the advantage of being easy to burn.

Hi there,

I've recently found out about this project and was wondering how to download it. The Myspleen links seem to be dead and torrent sites only seem to have outdated versions.

I have Star Wars on both VHS and DVD and can provide evidence if need be.

Kind regards,

Darby
