Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 5

Thanks for the comments, guys.

The whole shot is reconstructed using HD footage except for that little bit of sky. I was originally going to use GOUT for this shot, because it has a pan added to it, but after I managed to get rid of a pan in the Falcon leaving Mos Eisley shot, I decided to try with this one as well, so first I got rid of the pan roughly, then I stabilized the footage. Then I created an HD matte of the original background using screenshots from the SE and GOUT and than I rotoscoped R2 in from the stabilized footage, added grain to it and then I recreated the wipe from the previous shot.

And here I thought you just used the wipe from the GOUT and called it a day. It's that seamless!

Will anyone be making a custom DVD cover sleeve and DVD art for this? Someone should. I need one. Wicked bad. If not, can you link to a place with an archive of good custom covers?

Yes to all :-)

You're work will bring more happiness to more Original Trilogy fans than chocolate and pussy combined.

This makes me think of a chocolate vagina. Cadbury's chocolate vagina.

I'm planing to make some covers eventually but right now I have enough other stuff to do ;-)

Awesome. The shadow is gone.

Harmy, for the fade you added where the Jabba scene used to be, do you think you could have a slower fade, that started sooner? That might hide the partial wipe better.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Well, I would have done it but even now I had to add quite a few frames to the second shot, which wasn't easy.

This deal's getting better all the time . . .  ;)

I wonder if the optical transition at the Jabba cut could be eliminated more thoroughly by using the outer edges of previous frames, since it starts from the outside and closes in.  Just before it starts, the camera is holding still, isn't it?  Shouldn't be impossible to composite in considering the quality of work you've done already (unless there are other things I haven't foreseen).

I tried that but the camera isn't perfectly still and also, because the wipe is circular, the bottom gets cut off too and there are moving elements there, I'm afraid it would come out painfully obvious.

I'm really loving the work you've done so far Harmy, truly amazing indeed.  A few questions though.  In your test of the Mos Eisley sequence, in Luke's POV shot of the cantina, there's still the shadows of the inserted extras in the shot that you've removed.  I presume those shadows will be removed for the final version right?  Also, I'm not sure if anybody has asked you yet, how are you planning on tackling the battle of Yavin?  And will you be able to post a test of that whenever you can?

"Oh, don't sell yourself short Judge, you're a tremendous slouch."

Thanks. The shadow is already gone in the latest version of that shot.

As to the battle of Yavin, I'll be removing all the CGI shots with the scripted GOUT. It worked pretty well in the PDE for which I upscaled the GOUT myself and hopefully it will work even better with the GForced GOUT. I probably will post some tests later.

Sounds great.  Can't wait to see them.

Forgive me if you already know, Those shots with the Leia hologram were altered slightly.

Was you going to use the gout for those shots of Leia?

looking for HDTV of the  Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

No, the visual difference is so small and the quality difference so big that I don't think it's worth it.

hey harmy,

what percent complete would you say you are?  Sorry...i'm just eager ;-)

I have about 70% of the shots that I wanted to do in After Effects and then comes the cutting itself and the colour correction, so I would say about 50% overall.

I forgot to tell you Harmy, if you need the original theatrical sub-timings, I have the GOUT-frame counts listed clearly on every sub-picture in SW in my sub thread on page 1, from there it shouldn't be impossible for you to figure out the exact timing in your video, if you want to use them.

The timings for the SW-subs were all provided by Moth3r and is correctly synced against the widescreen bootleg and double checked against Puggo Grande.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

Also, I wanted to ask if someone with the necessary knowledge of avisynth could encode a video for me, which would be a plain green 720p sequence the lenght of the Greedo scene with msycamore's subs encoded in it, so that I could apply them easily in After Effects?

And these DVD active comparisons are pretty shit compared to 005's.

I actually have a considerable amount of hatred for the DVD Active comparisons. For one thing, they think the guy-in-a-mask that replaced the Wolf Man in the cantina was CGI.

Author
Time

Well, yeah there's quite a lot of misinformation in the DVD Active comparisons.

Also, welcome to the forum Greg, nice to see a new face. Did you sign the petition yet?

awesome...is that gforced gout?

I was wondering the source for you hd footage is adywans color corrected 1080p right?  I read that you are going to do your own color correcting.  What about adywans colors didn't you like?
