Yes, massive color correction is afoot.  In fact, it's pretty much done.

Harmy,

on the DVD version of Star Wars:DeSpec, the whites while onboard the Blockade Runner seem rather hard and with a bit of a yellowish tint (at least in comparison to GOUT and to Adywan's Revisited)

Are you redoing overall color correction with your newer versions, or are you mostly doing tweaks? I really would love it if you made the whites softer during those scenes.

He has retimed practically every shot to ressemble the colors on an IB technicolor print - basically a print from the 70s that has not faded and has given us a very faithful look at what the film looked like when it first came out. Keep that in mind when you watch 2.0 and you feel like it's pushed a bit green or a bit too blue in certain shots.

That's how it looked.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

mkay.

I was just saying that such as in this comparison, I thought the whites needed less yellow and to be softer:

Fantastic, Harmy!

Another dumbass change gets found, reported, and dealt with.

Take that, George!

Out of curiosity, how were you able to fix that shirt color so fast?  Was the color timing of the entire frame at fault, or was it definitely a conscious change made by George and Co. that had to be undone by changing the color of the shirt only?  Sorry, I'm just an audio person and I know next to nothing relating to video.  I'm doing good to make AVCHD's and BD's, and have no knowledge on the actual futzing around that you and others here do.

Whether you can answer this or not, you sir are a LEGEND!  :)

LOL dude, I know you mean well but I think it's clear that you haven't really read this thread? There have been four workprints of 2.0 released to date, and none of them have colors remotely close to the 1.0, much less like Chewtobacca's DVD5 conversion of it (which I admittedly have not seen, and shouldn't affect colors in theory). The colors have been slaved over - you should see the discussion about the Ben meets Luke scene and Falcon lightsaber colors; they're instructive. The results truly are like night and day.

If it bothers you so much...the Tantive IV is now much whiter than in the above screen of the 1.0 DVD. So rest easy :)

All praise Harmy for fixing that damn shirt! I have to wonder how many changes categorically could not get done at all...anyone wanna volunteer to make that list? Not as a criticism, at all; just to satisfy intellectual curiosity.

Yes, the sleeves had to be cut out frame by frame and recoloured separately. I tried over all correction but it didn't work. It was done relatively fast because they're all pretty short shots.

So it was a creative decision by Lucas and co.

Seriously, how many of these stupid changes are hidden in these movies?  I wonder if he removes shadows and stuff in the background, knowing that nobody will ever catch them, just to mess with people...

I wish that I could just wish my feelings away...but I can't.  Wishful wishing can only lead to wishes wished for in futile wishfulness, which is not what I wish to wish for.

And let's not forget the "improvements" and "enhancements" for the upcoming 3D abomination!  At least we have Raiders of the Lost Ark coming to us in IMAX to celebrate the restoration and BD release.

sweet, thanks for the heads-up!  I wish they had done this with Jaws as well.

Seems my latest find caused a little ruckus, hope my findings have at large been more of help to your project than a pain, Harmy. I rarely follow this thread so sorry if it's been already mentioned, was just curious if the Special Collection LD footage I sent Laserschwert proved to be of any help? Keep up the good work Harmy! Those Mos Eisley screenshots looks great.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Yes, it certainly did help :-) As to the changes, I'm glad for every one we manage to discover. I didn't quite rendering because of it. I just found a glitch in the render and as I'll  therefore have to re-render, I decided I might as well fix a few more things I noticed when watching the encode and fix the sleeves as well :-) I only fixed those four seen in that picture, as I compared the others with the IB scan and they looked pretty much the same as there (you'll notice that even these aren't as green as in GOUT, again, I fixed them to look like on the IB print).

Good to hear. Hope you manage to solve your technical issues.

Yeah, those four were the only ones I really was certain about. Nice to see those warm yellow hues restored in those examples of yours, that original timing is certainly what makes the greens on their shirts more subdued compared to how they appear in the GOUT for example. Great job!

Raiders also has cgi "improvements", lol. likely, you won't see the theatrical release.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to pull it off convincingly (it's basically colourization) but I'll try, yes.

Anyway, part of what I was fixing was this: (new on top, old bottom)

Nice Lightsaber colors, and the shirt is red again.:)

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

Incorrect.  Spielberg has stated that the restoration is of the original 35mm negative, and things like the glass reflection of the cobra will not only be seen again, but in IMAX to boot.

I stand corrected.

Harmy is your encoding error due to maybe a little too much bitrate for your cpu? Just thinking you might have hit a wall with your equipment.
