Well, actually it's not so prominent in that particular shot but in many shots in the Yavin battle the interior of Vader's tie is pink/magenta rather than red.

That is a lot better. Great job.

Looking good Harmy....on another note has anyone noticed that Luke's face looks a bit lobster looking in that scene he jumps out of the speeder but when he turns his head to speak to Ben his colour tone changes....and so does the wall behind him.....its not just your clip Harmy,....it does this on all Ive checked (dunno about GOUT)

EDIT: its not noticeable on GOUT

Thanks guys. Yeah, I noticed the lobster face. I might still try to fix it but no promises :-)

Yeah, I can see that very slight color change as Luke turns his head. It's not just Luke, or the building behind him, the color of the whole image seems to shift very slightly at that point. I think that might be one of those color fluctuations that Treadwell noticed way back in '97 upon seeing the SE in the cinema. I quote:

"The color timing was inconsistent; skin tones would go from pale to pink IN THE SAME SHOT. Most noticeable when Ben and Luke first meet Han."

So this could be a flaw in the SE film element, and not just with the color grading of the '04 transfer. Not sure what caused these issues in the first place - maybe it had something to do with the fading and deterioration in the negative, and when it was restored, the color correction/recovery made these problems stick out. (And of course, the '04 timing made things even worse...)

I was never quite happy with this shot but I tried to fix it a few times and never successfully and now I finally managed (well, it's still not perfect but at least the things that bothered me most are gone):

The background behind the Jawa when he starts hugging the speeder seems to wobble, or is it just my eyes?

Harmy,

If you're interested, I figured out how to extract the chapter timestamps from the GOUT DVDs and convert them into a playlist file that can replace the ones in the DEs. This allows you to skip to the more logical chapters present in the GOUT as opposed to the current, 5-minute increments. PM me if you like, and I can send you the files.

OK, PM sent.

BTW, I skipped all the chapters in SW, and noticed they got progressively very marginally further behind using the default values. They were only about 5 seconds off by the end. Not too bad actually, but I'm picky, so I wrote an Excel spreadsheet that calculates the difference factor and makes a new list of adjusted timestamps that I can paste into the conversion program (TSMuxer) that writes the new playlist file. SW is converting now, so if it works, I should be able to plug in the run times for the other two and get it right the first time. :)

Gimme about an hour.

Awesome work, Harmy.  I'm a little out of the loop lately - do you have a time-frame for when 2.0 will be finished?

Thanks.

OK, guys, here's a buttload of good news (well, assuming no unexpected problems arise):

I just reinstalled my windows and tried some new stuff in the process.

Not only does it seem that I will be able to use the Blu-Ray as my source, I will be able to use it with You_Too's awesome colour correction, which seems to solve many of the colour problems I was unable to solve myself (such as R2's over-blueness).

Furthermore, my room-mate just got a 2TB external HDD, which I should be able to borrow for encoding and it seems I figured out how to import the footage into Premiere, so it's bye bye PowerDirector-1pass-maximum-of-13mbps-mpeg2-encoding and hello Premiere-lossless-avi :-)

So, if all this works out, v2.0 should totally f*cking rock!!!

Oh and assuming a decent learning curve for Premiere, it could be done in about two weeks...

Fantastic News, Harmy! I'm so glad you have the tools at your disposal that can really do your work full justice. I love You_Too's color corrections with their warm 70's-esque palette. 2.0 will be utterly fantastic and mind-blowing, especially having seen the plethora of new excellent "De-specialized" clips you've released recently. Two weeks also seems really quick. I'd wait months for this! :-)

I'm trying to play catch-up with this thread, but that's great news Harmy! An artist should always have the best tools at his disposal. I'm very pleased to hear You_Too's color corrections will be utilized in your version... I've been very impressed with what he's been able to achieve. Version 2.0 is going to look far superior than we all thought was possible!

I think I missed something. Is there a post or thread for these You_Too corrections?
