Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 367

Hi all, first post here, and of course, warmest thanks to Harmy and everyone else who worked on a project!

I have an annoying problem though - files play just fine on my PC, but my TV with built-in codec, reading it of external USB, crashes when I trye to play these! Which is strange, because up until now my TV was happy to decode any single matroska file you throw at it.

I have done a Mediainfo comparison between some MKV files that are OK on my TV and these Harmy's Star Wars files.

SOME RANDOM MKV WORKING THROUGH MY TV:
Format                                   : AVC
Format/Info                           : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile                        : High@L5.1
Format settings, CABAC         : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames    : 8 frames
Codec ID                                : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC
Duration                                 : 1h 59mn
Bit rate                                   : 4 848 Kbps
Width                                     : 1 280 pixels
Height                                    : 544 pixels
Display aspect ratio                : 2.35:1
Writing library                         : x264 core 56 svn-667C

HARMY'S SW FILES (NOT WORKING):
Format                                   : AVC
Format/Info                            : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile                         : High@L4.0
Format settings, CABAC         : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames    : 3 frames
Muxing mode                         : Header stripping
Codec ID                                : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC
Duration                                 : 2h 1mn
Bit rate mode                         : Variable
Bit rate                                   : 7 038 Kbps
Nominal bit rate                      : 7 504 Kbps
Maximum bit rate                    : 25.0 Mbps
Width                                      : 1 280 pixels
Height                                     : 720 pixels
Display aspect ratio                 : 16:9
Writing library                          : x264 core 80 r1376kGIT 3feaec2

Since these two files are made with the same video codec, AVC, (and same audio, AC-3, I checked), I assume that it's something to do with the matroska container file that my TV doesn't like? Any suggestions how I could try to fix those so that my TV can decode Harmy's files?

Thanks in advance!

Is your TV a Samsung ? Samsung and a couple of other brands had problems with header stripping.

EDIT: I'm reading it again and indeed, header stripping is your problem. Remux the video without header compression and it will play on your TV perfectly

Edit 2 : Here is how you can do it : http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=header_com

Wow! Hats off mate, that's exactly what it was. I can't believe it's such a simple thing, I have no idea what's header stripping, not that it matters.

By the way, the TV is not samsung, it's LG 32LH5000, I was just about to try to flash its firmware, which I *really* don't want to risk, and it was this all along. Well done!

Here's a pint for you!

or consider Mezzmo. Best media server i have ever used. Samsung plays nice with it. LG as well.

Preferred Saga:
1,2: Numeraljoker extended
3: L8wrtr
4,6-9: Hal9000
5: Adywan

What is the ETA for a 2.5 Harmy we are all waiting in anticipation? Do you have all the audio tracks or are you still waiting on those? I hoped I would be able to get a group together to do an audio commentary but it looks like no one wants to do that

I do. At the very least,  were I not to participate, I'd still want it to be made.

Here they are... German subtitles for the featurette:

I just added one more really quick (and unaltered) mirror of Harmy's recent "Sources-Doc-New.mkv" share to my earlier post here.

If there is interest in providing similar treatment to a remuxed version of the video with multiple subtitle options…I'd gladly lend my bandwidth to the task. ;)

English subtitles for the Video Sources Documentary are now complete! Get the .srt file with the direct link below:

Looks great. I took the liberty of reading it over, and I have a few small corrections.

25
00:02:37,250 --> 00:02:42,609
based on the colors of a
well preserved Technicolor print.

I believe it should be "well-preserved" (with a hyphen).

68
00:06:40,789 --> 00:06:44,270
A scan of the first part of the Mos Eisely scene

"Mos Eisley" is misspelled.

And finally, "Blu-ray" is spelled without the hyphen throughout the subtitles. The hyphen should be included.

Thanks for the feedback, Airwave. I based the English subtitles on the video transcript available on TheStarWarsTriology.com, so those errors carried over. I've made all the corrections you recommended, and an updated version of the English subtitles is available for direct download here:

Many thanks, George! Based on Airwave's feedback, I found out that the "official" spelling of "Blu-ray" includes the hyphen, so I've taken the liberty of editing your German subtitles to reflect that. The (barely edited) version of these German subtitles are available for direct download here:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/108143349/Sources-Doc_German_edit1.srt

Both of these edited subtitles are now active for the video on YouTube, available at the link below:

Thanks for the feedback and translations! I'm looking forward to adding additional languages as they become available!

Has anyone converted the Harmy releases to standard DVD? If so, how do they look?

Chewtobacca has regularly created DVD5's in the past, and they look great.  One soundtrack (5.1 AC3), no other features.  I like to add a few extra audio tracks and make a DVD9 from it.

EDIT: Especially with the 1.0's some people even prefer the DVD downscale because it evens out the differences between HD and GOUT footage.  FWIW I believe Chewtobacca is planning to do the same for 2.5 or will provide Harmy with his scripts so Harmy can do it straight from his sources.

Here are my French subs. I gave my translation to Marvins so he mixes our translations, but I don't know what he's doing with them at the moment.

I have also updated the transcript with these corrections. I have left one deliberate "bluray" instead of "blu-ray" for search engine keyword optimization since I bet a lot of people Google for "bluray" without the hyphen.

I've been part of this community for about a decade now, and watching this short video has reminded me of the very reasons I signed up in the first place.

Thank you for all your work and those who contributed to those elements.

Cannot wait to see v2.5 and share it with future generations.

I finally watched Harmy's making of doc and it was truly impressive. I was most impressed with the group that made their own scan of a low fade lpp print. I would love to have their whole transfer. Is that on a torrent somewhere? Anyone know how to get a copy of it?

It's not finished yet.  I would imagine it will be done sometime next year.

Thanks for the preliminary translation work! I'll wait for you and Marvins to fine-tune the translation and fix a few errors that seem to be present in the current version. For example, I noticed that one or more lines were not translated (i.e., line 6 is still in English). Additionally, it looks like some of the .srt formatting was missed, such as missing spaces in lines 77-85, or the absence of line breaks throughout, causing what looks like two words to be combined.

Let me know when everything's fixed and you're happy with the translation!

Cool! Just to let you know, the English subtitles I worked up based on that transcript did include some other minor edits/corrections I made myself. I didn't make a list of edits, but I'd be happy to compare the two versions and point out any other changes if you'd like.

Harmy

For a long time now I have really wanted to watch the Original Versions of The Star Wars Trilogy on my HDTV but I didn't want to have to watch my Non-Anamorphic Widescreen DVDs that I bought back in late 2006. Recently, I heard about the Despecialized Editions and decided to check them out and I was BLOWN AWAY! The Picture and Sound Quality is magnificent. It was really a great experience to finally watch the Original Versions in HD. It was a big deal to me because the Original Versions were the first versions I ever saw of the Star Wars Trilogy, that was two years before the Special Edition Versions were released and I prefer the Original Versions.

You and your team deserve alot of credit because for putting together the Despecialized Editions. You have given fans the wonderful? opportunity to watch the Original Versions of these classic films in HD. I really respect what you have created and accomplished. For so many years now I've been wanting to watch the Original Versions restored in HD and I'm so happy that chance is available now.

Thank you so much Harmy. You've made so many fans extremely happy.

Strange, I didn't notice that when checking for mistakes.

My pleasure. Thanks for doing the subtitles. I decided to do another read of your updated version to see if I missed something while reading it the first time. I have two small corrections. At the start, in "[ Introducing The Sources ]", "the" and "sources" should not be capitalized (alternatively, capitalize the whole thing). Also, "X-wing" is spelled with a lowercase w.

In addition, this time I decided to check that all references to users on this forum and their projects were spelled and capitalized the way they do it themselves. I have the following corrections to usernames and project names:
Dark Jedi -> dark_jedi
Team Negative One -> team negative1
Puggo Grande -> Puggo GRANDE

This is the way they themselves spell it, so I figured we should respect that.

That shouldn't be necessary. When people search for misspellings like that, Google automatically corrects them. Notice when searching for "bluray" all the highlighted matches to "blu-ray".

Line 6 still in English aside, everything looks good both in my text editor and in VLC.

Awesome. The Transcript has been updated to reflect the username corrections and fix the last "bluray". If there are any other corrections you think I should make, just let me know.

Looks great, although you forgot to fix "X-Wing -> X-wing". Also, I'm unsure about how team negative1 wants their name capitalized. They spell it with no capitalized letters, but I'm not sure if that's just writing style or the way they prefer it. I suppose the only way to know is to ask.

You can capitalize both the names or leave as is, whichever is easier. Thanks.
