Oh, God. I can't believe I did that. lol. It's 2.1. =p

EDIT: Harmy, someone on myspleen asked if there were plans for a 1080p version. I figure the answer is "no" but I thought I'd ask you and get your official response to the question first.

Uh, I would have had it this morning if Windows wasn't a dork and automatically downloaded updates and restarted my computer in the middle of the night! Is this a common thing? I have a mac, but needed to bootcamp into windows for work and began downloading the film in the background. At least OS x has the common curtosy to not reboot unless you ask it to!!

Rant over- I can't wait to come back home and watch it!!

You'd think they'd consider more than just the lowest common denominator of PC user skills, but Microsoft doesn't.  You can turn that off manually by adjusting your automatic update settings to have it just notify you rather than automatically downloading or installing.  That or stay on OSX or switch to Linux (as I use 90+% of the time).  Any way you go, it is hard to see why Windows has the dominance it does, and Windows 8 only goes to prove that it shouldn't realistically be so ubiquitous.

Harmy, I've spot checked a few things in the 2.1 and just want to say what a massive improvement Alec Guinness' opening scenes are, because of your color tweaks the picture no longer looks blown out or the characters difficult to distinguish from the background like it was in 2.0.  Phenomenal job.  Also, I'd like to note that in my 30 years, this is the first that I've noticed just how tattered Ben's robes are in that scene; thanks for bringing my nostalgia back in a very vivid way.

People don't use Macs as much because they have fewer games and because they're more expensive for the same processing power.

People don't use Linux as much because, again there are *MUCH* fewer games, the number of flavors is confusing, and (likely depending more or less on the flavor), it requires a certain understanding about command line usage.

Windows has certain proprietary advantages over Linux; and it has a smaller price point and more power user abilities than Mac OS.

People say that Mac OS is better because there are no viruses, but the reason why is because the market share is so small. If the market share for Mac in any way rivaled that of Windows, you can bet your ass there would indeed be viruses.

OK, now, before I can start building the BD, I need to put together all the material that will go on it - that is the video (I will use v2.0 MKV's video as a temp for now) all the audio tracks (so I'll need the other lossless audio tracks asap) and all the bonus material.

Are you planing on including the deleted scenes from the BD as an extra? :)

My media player is having a bit of trouble playing the paradox download

Is that because it's in iso format? i extracted the files from the iso with winrar then made a mkv with mkvmerge.

Great job Harmy, looking forward to the Blu-Ray.

I've no idea. I did the same and tried both files, the video kept sticking but audio kept going then the picture would speed up and catch up also had a load of green blocking and noise just as 3po says "were have you been" to R2, but downloaded the spleen one and hey presto no messing. I use a a Cyclone Micro3 to stream from my 500gb hdd which can be very moody at times, but hey ho.

Kingherb what version of mkvmerge do you use?

The tiny file size differences in conversion are likely the tiny differences in time, which is likely due to the credits at the end being slightly longer.

Had a brief time to watch about 30 min. last night and really liked the work in motion, in context, etc.

The color seems "just right" in lots more places, and more consistent.

I'm using MKVmerge Gui 5.2.0, i have not bothered updating for a while since i've had no problems using it so far.

Again, with the ISO from paradox, just use disc image mounting software just (I use WinCDEmu) to mount the ISO to a drive letter, then you can extract the files from within the drive.

That's what I had to do. 7-Zip says the problems we're having is likely because the ISO file has a bad header. Some unzipping programs can overcome it, but apparently not 7-Zip.

The command line thing is mostly a myth anymore, at least with any modern main-stream distro, which any new user would basically only fall into something Debian based (Ubuntu or Mint) or (less likely) Red Hat based (Fedora).  The plethora of distros beyond that cater to preferences and choice of more venerable users.  And as far as the age old games argument, with the hardcore push by Valve for native Linux support of Steam and Windows 8 Store's competitiveness with traditional Windows game distribution (publishers aren't all thrilled with that), I think we should reserve judgement until we see how things pan out in this current landscape.  Plus, we'll just have to see if Microsoft's proprietary lure can overcome that horrid new interface (keep in mind, even if some of you find it usable with third party start buttons, you aren't going to see that on corporate systems, which makes it a much less usable choice for business), that and Linux has its own unique strengths that can be attractive to businesses.

Also, you won't see me defending Mac, so I guess that wraps up this bit of off topic for me.

Topic... on topic... um... v2.1 works great in Linux!

I don't know--I don't use Windows 8.

I use Windows 7. I don't need 8 because neither my desktop nor my laptop have touch screens, which makes using 8 entirely pointless.

Yes, Steam is heading toward Linux support, but they haven't reached it yet. Further, GOG.com has no Linux support as far as I'm aware. Until either of them do, you can expect people to not bother with Linux if they are at all interested in games.

Also, I would think the biggest part of the PC market is in office computers. It's probably the reason why Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop are so popular and expensive--because businesses are willing to pay for it (likely everyone uses Office because everyone else uses Office, alleviating problems caused by converting file formats.)

I'm not sure how keen office managers are on switching all their workstations to Linux. Servers, yes, but workstations?

I think businesses will just skip on Windows 8 like they skipped on Vista and wait for Microsoft to wake up. I think the hybrid approach was a bit silly and should probably have done two different interfaces depending on the hardware.

In any case, I think arguing over the cons and pros of osx, windows and linux is pretty tiring and done to death. Plus a lot of the common stereotypes are rather overblown- Windows security is pretty good, OSX is actually pretty easy to install on compatible non apple hardware and Android is proof that linux is not just a computer science hobby. I have both Windows 7 and OSX on my machine for a best of both worlds scenario. Plus I can always put linux up there if I want. Bam-more choice and fun for all.

Anyway, thanks for the windows tips, and looking forward to going home to see this thing in action!

I guess I'm the odd-man-out.

I'll stick with OpenBSD and NetBSD; thank you very much.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I really enjoyed watching this on the big screen again!

Harmy do you want feedback in this forum, or do you have another feedback/suggestions-only thread that isn't as busy?

Watched with the commentary today. Everything looks just fine to me, absolutely no complaints. Thanks Harmy, patiently awaiting the Blu!

Replaced 2.0 in my case today...

@djchaseb  that's a pretty snazzy trilogy cover, might you have a link?

How do you watch it with the commentary? Sorry, I'm new to these video types and formats! I'm normally such an advanced tech guy that it's weird feeling like a newb! I downloaded the AVCHD from myspleen. So far just tested it by streaming it from my laptop to my TV via Plex Media Server (unfortunately I think that causes a little audio lag since it's being transcoded on the fly...there was no lag when played directly on my computer in VLC). This is all a brave new world for me but it's worth it for the Despecialized versions! Still learning and sorting all this out. I'm hoping to keep the best quality files I can on an R2-D2 USB drive for playing at a friend's home theater.

I don't think there is a commentary.

There are four commentaries actually - read the description in the first post. And to watch the film with one of the commentaries, you simply switch to it, like any other soundtrack option.
