He'll wait for the Blu-ray.  The AVCHD is meant to be a chance for people to spot issues, so there's a slight possibility that the BD will feature improvements.

I was thinking, maybe you could just send me a script to use and I could encode the DVD myself from the lossless source files. I don't suppose it would take too long to render at that low a bit rate (unless mpeg2 takes much longer to encode than h264).

That's strange - I've used the exact same settings for the AVCHD as for v2.0 and it came out quite a bit smaller (by like 600MB). This on one hand means, that I'll be able to add a few extra audio or subtitle tracks but it's a bit worrying.

That is odd, sometimes differences in colors and motion affect file size but since all the changes you mad were very subtly that wouldn't make much sense. Maybe there is a program out there that will crawl through a video file to look for corruption

It's faster.  I'll talk to you nearer the time.  :-)

Got through all the screenshots, and really like most of the choices on the scenes.

The last few scenes, the green on the plants is so much more natural looking. The tiny bit of loss in the weird red shift (but only on a couple of the shots that I could tell...) is going to be so much nicer in this.

Thanks again for taking another look at all the scenes here, and going with doing what you feel is right, of course :) Also digging the lesser amounts of odd green hues in places. Super excellent.

Also, a question - when muxing an AVCHD with TS Muxer, which options should I choose when I want to ensure best compatibility and ease of playback? I always kept the default settings for everything, but now, I figure, maybe that's not the best option, especially since when playing in MPC, tracking through the film doesn't seem to work in the first and last two minutes or so and it was the same with the v2.0.

Sad story, bro.

Yeah, well.. time heals all wounds I guess. Just gotta focus on awesome things, like the impending release :) So happy I found this forum some 8 years ago! *Getting sentimental.....*

Halfway through the new comparison now; the new timing on the first meeting with Obi-wan looks great! And the "look sir, droids" shot really stood out among the improvements!! And nice job with the details on the Tantive walls. Damn nice job with everything, Harmy!

Uncheck Add picture timing info and Continually insert SPS/PPS.

Interesting.  Does that apply to Blu-rays too?

Will the final version (2.1) be on Blu Ray format? Err, another question of mine is in reference to the audio. During this remaster, has there been any substantial improvements with the audio quality in comparison to George Lucas' Blu Ray release?

If this version is less noisy then I would expect a smaller file size, but double check all the settings...

Harmy will release files that can be burned onto a Blu-ray, and I believe he said he'll include clear instructions for how to do it.

From 2.0->2.1, there is no change to the default audio, and little-to-no change to the other audio tracks.  This means that compared to the official Blu-ray release, the audio on Harmy's Blu-ray will stomp the official release, wipe the floor with it, and otherwise thoroughly reveal it to be a complete embarrassment to the audio profession.  You will find that the official Blu-ray audio is only suitable for scaring vermin out of your crawlspace.  Harmy's is/will be that much better.

Thank you for answering my question. And if you don't mind my asking, will 2.1 be released as a file, or by patch? I figure he'll be done in a couple of months, so, I'm really excited. I haven't seen the 2.0 version yet, just George Lucas' Blu Ray.

2.1 will be a complete standalone release (er, maybe two separate downloads for the Blu-ray), you won't need to already have 2.0 first.  2.0 is stunning, but if you don't mind waiting, 2.1 is just around the corner and will be better.

FWIW, Harmy doesn't really do much with audio, so if you want to learn more about that, you can look through hairy_hen's audio threads discussing the default "1977 70mm reconstruction" audio track.  The alternate audio tracks all have their own sometimes interesting histories.

Will there be any quality difference with converting it to Blu-Ray? Ah, I don't mind waiting.

Also, is Harmy planning on remastering the entire original trilogy?

In animemaakuo's defense and I mean no offense to whoever created this site but the forum software is very bad, the search feature is non existent there are feature that I have become used to that are non existent on here like the ability to click on a user profile and fins all their posts and threads, even the ability to navigate pages is awful. I just started using this site when I heard about Harmy in December only to discover that I had made an account on here in August 2009 but I can't see whether or not I made any posts back then. If this sites software were replaced with say vBulletin the user experience would be much better

You need to stop complaining so much.  I overlook all those things you mentioned because I know that I'm lucky that there is a forum like this at all.

Complained so much? This is the first time I've complained and I wouldn't really call this a complaint I'm just saying not to gang up on the new guy for not reading back all the pages. Calm down and talk about Star Wars jeez
