Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 315

Yes, I read that post:

CONTAINER: MKV

SIZE: 15.7GB

Just wasn't sure why it is so much larger than the Despecialized ESB and ROTJ.  I guess that's the right one then.

If there's anyone I'm forgetting, please don't be ashamed to PM me also, even the smallest contribution counts and I'd really like to give credit where it is due.

All I ever wanted in life was to watch a movie and see "Stinky-Dinkins" in the end credits.

You laugh, but nobody else thought to mail Harmy a pube, and then where would this project be?

ESB and ROTJ are both still V1 (therefore only DVD-9 sized AVCHD), Harmy is working on V2.1 of ANH at this moment, with the others to follow eventually.

I wish there was a faneditor's commentary.

I would love to watch this and to hear you talk about the various bits you did to restore the films.

The 15.7 GB MKV is the 2.0 version. It just hasn't been converted to Bluray format for burning.

Myspleen also has the AVCHD and DVD5 versions, so pick what you want. I got the AVCHD because the rest of the trilogy (albeit only 1.0) is also AVCHD.

Suffice it to say that any version is good. But as has been said, 2.1 is coming out soon so be prepared to download again as it has lots of improvements over 2.0.

Stinky is already in the v2.0 credits :-D

Oh, yeah, the DTS HD file of hairy_hen's mix should definitely be lossless, what I meant was that if you guys want me to include the other mixes in lossless I'd be happy to as long as they're served on a silver platter.

I actually found out that I have Belbucus' mono mix restoration in lossless flac. But I don't know what to do with it - I doubt it can be used as is, plus it probably isn't GOUT synced (though it only needs a slight time-shift if it isn't). I could convert it to wav in Audacity but a wav file will be like 1GB, whereas the flac file is only 300MB, so converting to wav seems like a waste of space - isn't there any BD compatible lossless format that would give a similar size as the flac?

You STILL could use the FLAC file for the mkv version (if you plan one) :-)

Thanks for your replies.  I got the 2.0 for ANH and the 1.0 for t'others, as I don't intend to burn them.  Rather, I keep them on a Harmy-dedicated 32 GB USB thumb drive for portability and ease of use.  I renamed the files with a IV, V, and a VI, preceeding each title, and as one ends, the next one begins.  :-)  I look forward to 2.1 !

Actually, a faneditor commentary would be a really neat thing.  The Phantom Editor did similar, actually, and that was very informative and insightful.  I can only imagine what all Harmy would have to say on the subject of his restoration.  Not that I want the 2.1 to wait for it, but if he feels inspired to eventually do such a track, that'd be a great reason to have a 2.5 release down the line.

Hey guys: I haven't been around much lately, due to excessive real life business, but I'm definitely looking forward to the release of version 2.1.  I plan on providing optimized lossless audio tracks for all the original mixes to be included here, if Harmy wants them, so stay tuned.  ;)

@Buck you might want to consider grabbing V1.0 of ANH for a fun before and after.

@hairy, thanks for your effort on providing fantastic original version audio tracks!

@hairy_hen: Yes, please!

re faneditor's commentary: I don't think I'll do one - most of those shots run by so quickly, I wouldn't have enough time to describe how I did them and I don't know what else I could talk about there for two hours.

I suppose you could read Star Wars poetry...

Or maybe some of us Harmy included could get on Skype and record our own community commentary. The guys over at commentarytrackstars.com recorded a commentary for Adywan's revisited and I thought it was really good. I would definitely be up for doing a community commentary if anyone else is interested

Interesting, and it wouldn't even have to be part of an official release, it can be us responding to watching 2.1 and have it as a separate downloadable affair...

EDIT: and I mean it'd be GOUT-synced, of course.

Sounds more like an online watch party sort of thing where everyone can get all silly with jibber jabber and virtual popcorn throwing ;)
Something like turntable.fm with video, or a big "second life" party type event.

What we could do is record the commentary of us watching the AVCHD version of 2.1 once that gets released and then send the file to Harmy for him to incorporate into the 2.1 Blu-ray special features

I too have been holding out for 2.1 - my fiance has never seen SW(!) and I am looking forward to her inaugural experience to be this one.

Harmy, I hope that you will consider doing a commentary track.  Even if all you do is blather randomly in real time, with occasional remarks of "I removed a bunch of crap here", or "I recomposited this", I think you understimate how interesting that would be to those of us who have been following this thread religiously for so long.  You could also remark about what was hard to fix, and what was easy to fix.  Or, what source you used to fix each scene.  Or, your thoughts on technical aspects of particular scenes after having worked so closely on them.  By now you probably know more about the nuts and bolts of the film than George does - your insights and observations are valued.

As long as I get to say "close the blast doors!"  :)

My thoughts almost exactly MichaelKirschner.

In that case, I get dibs on "Open the blast doors! Open the blast doors!" (give some balance to your alternate audio track flair).  That or I could exaggerate when the stormtrooper hits his head...

And we should dub over Aunt Beru just for the heck of it, I'm sure George probably always wanted to give that a third go around.

Oh, and I get to call the little mouse droid "Tobor"!  We can do it up Rifftrax style when we don't have anything insightful to say...

I thought we agreed to never reveal the time we spent together in the nunnery. :-(

OK, I'll think about it. I do love watching films with commentaries (which is why I synced the ones from the BD to DeEd, so that I can listen to them while checking the DeEd video for errors) and it could be fun to do one of my own :-)
