ROFLRICK said:Has anyone noticed the cropping that is occurring on both the right and left sides of the frame? This is not present in any other version, and as best as I can tell, it is actual cropping. Information visible on the MKV, AVCHD, etc. is seemingly missing on the DVD-5.

It's not.  The eight pixels of black bar on either side of the image are nominal analogue blanking.  No cropping has occurred.

Good to know :-)

And thank you guys for the compliments. V2.1 is not really all that much work (I'm done with all the fixes now except the Obi-Wan scene, which should be a piece of cake).

Harmy, don't let the naysayers get you down. I can see you've put a ton of work into this and I thank you for wanting to share your efforts with us all. So many of us have wished for ages that this film could be available in high-quality, without the hideous blue tinting and awful SE changes. Finally we're getting that, and we all owe you a huge collective thank you. It's amazing that some will pick you apart just because you've decided to go back a make a few changes before finalizing it. I can't think of how many times I've bought retail blu-rays and find out that they are recalled due to errors and screw-ups. Halloween II was recalled and replaced due to a missing opening credit, Deadly Spawn got recalled due to a poor DVD upconversion, The Star Trek Next Generation discs were recalled due to the audio tracks being mixed up, Sunshine got recalled due to forcing a pop-up track, and Event Horizon was released in an incorrect, stretched aspect ratio. Just to name a few examples. So if the big studios can screw up, I think you're entitled to put out a 2.1 version of despecialized.

I like the idea of the film countdown like you used to see in theatres. That would be great to see on the blu-ray as an opening title before the film starts.

And thanks for deciding to do an AVCHD. Like you said we can always make our own mkv if we choose from the blu-ray, but honestly it sounds like the AVCHD will offer the same quality anyhow, so thanks!

Still enjoying the hell out of the MKV, even with the less than perfect audio? Honestly I haven't noticed on my pathetic tv speakers haha.  My girlfriend is annoyed that I watch it every night, they need to release more 50 shades of grey books so she will keep quiet

Hey Harmy, the past few pages have been a lot of talk of audio fixes and a 2.1 release of the AVCHD.  Just out of curiousity, are you still targetting the end of this month for the blu release?

Piece of cake to make the change, sure.  Piece of cake to satisfy the picky, picky masses? Maybe not so much. ;)

I know he has made me a very happy person with his editions. I hope that he continues to release a tweak version every couple of years. Even if it maybe a new menu or tweaking a scene, or uncropping a scene even add new special features or even going full 1080. I look forward to it all and I love cake.

Why are people criticizing you, and your work.

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

To be honest, I don't think so. Not because of the v2.1 though, like I said that's almost done. But the extras will probably take a bit longer to finish.

Oh, and someone asked what I'll be using for authoring. Probably Scenarist.

You know Harmy the only thing i missed in the finished mkv of 2.0, was the old cinema countdown like you had in your test parts, would you consider bringing that back for the Blu-Ray?

++ Those countdowns were awesome and would make great menu transition lead-in/outs.

I was not sure if you missed this before Harmy, as the thread had some hate spamming going on, i just wondered what you thought about it?

Well, definitely not those used in the WP, those were bad SD upscales. But if someone could get me HD scans of those countdowns, I'd probably go for it.

No need for those specifically. If you could get them to me in some decent quality, I'd be very grateful :-)

Harmy,

Will the 2.1 AVCHD be out before the Blu-ray or are you planning on releasing them both around the same time? Just curious.

Cool, Harmy. Looking forward to v2.1 and thank you for all the work you've put in on this release.

This has probably been asked before, but the only Despecialized versions of ESB and ROTJ I've been able to find are compressed files that don't quite have the same impact that Star Wars 2.0 does. Were these ever released in the same quality, and if not, are there plans to do so?

Edit: Nevermind, I see in the other threads that apparently those two are a while in the future, but I'm definitely looking forward to them. I will gladly sacrifice 45 gigs of permanent hard drive space to own them all!
