I had never seen that shot with such a strong sky, it's beautiful.
Harmy, in your latest scene with the sunset, at the end did you leave the mountain layer in there on purpose?
You know of the rebellion against the Empire?
It will of course be cut out in the final version, I just uploaded the AVI as I outputted it from AE.

There's a small glitch at the end that I already fixed but I didn't want to recut and reupload because of it.
I'd like to say thanks to both DJ and Mattman, who both offered to send me clips from their upscales. This last clip actually uses the sandcrawler from a clip provided by DJ. The background is recreated using this 70mm scan and a custom made sky.

Agreed, that is a terrific looking clip.
How long do you anticipate this will take Harmy, ballpark?
Thanks guys.
I would say about a month but I can't say for sure.

This is great. I am so happy to see this scene restored. I'm thoroughly enjoying all of your work.
Wow. At first I thought the background trooper on the dewback looked different from the actual OOT, as well as the sky of the last shot.
But then I pulled up the OOT and they only looked different because of the picture quality.
My only suggestion would be to add more nuance to the sky in the last shot. It looks like the original clouds with a sky-blue background.
But, y'know, it's probably mostly from the YouTube compression.
Yeah, I had to alter the sky in order to make the transition from the previous shot less jarring. What was eaten up by YouTube compression is all the grain.
Wow, the clip looks pretty amazing.
Looks really great Harmy. 8)
The reality is, though, that even on YouTube, that's the highest quality I've ever seen that scene in.
THAT is why it looks so strange.
Well done! I love the idea of using the scans, I wonder if you can find them of the original mattes...Harmy said:

Sadly, I looked and unless there are some others than these, this was the only one I could really use. And even so, I could only use the ground, because the sky and the clouds were so grainy (and I'm sure that it was not the natural grain present in the o-neg, but dirt on the print) that I couldn't use them because the grain and dirt would be static and that would look horrible.
Harmy that footage is amazing, i cant wait to see this finished.
Could this pic be used for removing some of the added vaporators?

Those scans are pretty cool in-and-of-themselves; it shows the original colors.
Well, actually the prints are faded, so I don't think that the colours are accurate, look at the Jedi scans. But even SW and Empire are faded, some reels more than others maybe but they all are.
And as to this picture, I considered it, but there's another shot from the same angle in the SE which wasn't altered, so it will be better to use that.
really looking forward to this Harmy. From the looks of it this will be my favorite version of ANH. Just out of curiousity have you fixed the part where the storm troopers walk up to the door where c3po and r2d2 are hiding behind on tatooine? And by fixed i mean removed that annoying hovering cgi robot.
"I will laugh my ass off a hundred years from now when the only version of STARWARS people remember are harmys despecialized editions. They will project it on a 20' by 40' screen with perfect quality."
Well, not yet but I'm steadily progressing and I'm definitely planning to.
Guys, check out this thread, please.
OK, here's the whole Mos Eisley sequence:

It is just work in progress. There are still a few bugs and Greedo is missing subtitles. Also the colours are not final.
lookin good harmy. I didn't do a shot by shot comparison with the GOUT but off the top of my head I noticed the transition that cuts out the jabba scene was a little abrupt. I realize george made that hard to work around. Is that how you are going to release it?
Great job, can't wait for the release.

You rotoscoped Ben's lightsaber, didn't you?
All in all it looks fantastic. Truly exciting!
