Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 192

Harmy, i like it!

Yeah, i think if you just fine-tune it a little and possibly make the animation a little more subtle, it will look awesome.  Personally I would slow it down a bit and I would probably choose the "Force Theme" to play over it, but that's just my personal preference.

But I definitely like the look and idea of this a lot.

*edit - nevermind about the speed, just saw your last post

Harmy, I'd love to see your final render when it is finished.  This actually got me even more excited about 2.0 if that's possible.

Beautiful.  Classy.  Can't beat the classic movie poster image in evoking the nostalgia were all desiring.  Great parallax effect too.

Nice, although I don't really like the focusing twice. But I like it anyways.

Lovely animation (at least on a par with the GOUT menus, and those are pretty darned good).

I'd favour a single, smooth glide into position too.

Author

I'm so impressed! Just... WOW!

Author

Well, yeah, my plan is for it to slide into position like it does here but maybe more slowly when the menu opens and then the camera would keep changing view very slightly and very slowly in the background the whole time, so the menu is never completely static.

Love the menu concept!

I agree with JohnLocke2342, not a huge fan on the second movement. I also second the awesomeness of the parallax effect. The lens flare is pretty sweet too!

My 3 cents are:

1) Easy-ease your camera movement keyframes.

2) Maybee try matting out the death star's background at the beginning so it's over black, then fade it up as the camera zooms out...

3) Maybee comp in a higher resolution image of the death star and CC it to match the rest of the artwork. You could then add a grain filter and keyframe it to match the zoom out so that when it's close, its nice and sharp then as the camera moves back to reveal the rest of the comp, the grain would increase to match the rest of the look.

Man you guys are so picky haha.  I guess that's a good thing! Menu totally blew me away.  Awesome stuff.

not being picky, just making a few aesthetic suggestions...in fact, Harmy if you're cramped for time/processing power and want to delegate...i can mess around with menu animations in AE...

Haha yeah, we shouldn't. Harmy is doing an awesome work while he shouldn't be. Remastering the Original Trilogy should be the work of Hollywood professionals. As I say in my signature, why doesn't Lucas make his crappy changes for himself? I'd go further than Harmy if I could and restore the localized crawl opening of A New Hope. Will see if I can do that with an iOS app I just downloaded. Would anyone be interested if I can do that? Harmy maybe?

I guess he means that if you choose a language you'll get the crawls in that language. This is what they did with the star wars boxset in my country. You select the language at the beginning and the titles are changed into your language accordingly (yet you can still change the audio through the film)

If I may add a thing, if such a thing was possible I guess you'll have to have also Greedo's scene with subtitles different for each language.

I'm just really hoping at this point that this is ready for my birthday next week! Holding out, however unlikely. I can't wait!

Were different Greedo subs available in different languages too?  I never knew that.

That's what usually happens in films when there is a foreign language spoken. New subtitles: but in the language of the country it's being show in.

I know that.  But the Greedo subtitles are different... they aren't really subtitles in the traditional sense - they are a part of the original film because of the segment of speach in an imaginary alien language that no viewer could possibly know. The Swedish 16mm film I digitized had Swedish subtitles that ran through the entire film, but during the Greedo scene they sat on top of (in addition to) the original English Greedo subtitles.  They didn't replace the English Greedo subtitles with Swedish ones.

So I repeat my question - in the case of the Greedo subtitles, what displayed in non-English-speaking theaters?  Does anyone know for sure?

They probably didn't replace them because they were IN the movie, not uncommon to just place them on top in that case.
"customary" is to just have them replace the subtitles.

Of course I live in the Netherlands where they usually don't dub things, but just have subtitles in the first place.

Author

Well they're not really a part of the original film since nearly all the IPs used for home video have them missing. IMO, they were added further down the IP chain.

Plus there's -1's print that is a spanish print...except for the opening title roll and the greedo scene, which are spliced English scenes. Whoever did this wanted English text.

Well, I assume that whoever did the editing of -1's print must have been aiming for all English presentation, probably playing the sound from an external source.

But this is actually an interesting issue for those who want to do their own foreign language version of DeEd.

as soon as we get a tape, we'll get back to you on that.... but I'm pretty sure the subtitles were localized.... If they went through all the trouble of localizing the crawl, the "a long time ago", the Lucasfilm card, why not the Greedo scene?
Plus, the SEs were done that way

Author

Well, in many markets, Greedo was simply dubbed over speaking the same language as everyone else, so there would be no need for subtitles at all in those cases.

OK, now I really want to hear "Spanish" Greedo... :D

If some of you want to see an example of localized opening crawl, here's the French one. Interestingly there's a typo near the end of the text. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFg6iMK3ikM

I managed to almost recreate it with the app "Crawl Creator". It's an amazing iOS app, and I think I read it's also available on Google Play. It's not perfect (even if you try to disable it, the app creates a blank episode title), but it's really nice to see what you can do with a smartphone.
