Did you fix the xwing with the jaggies?

How about, in the final Death Star battle where you use upscaled GOUT shots, re-creating the GOUT starfields so that stars are finer? - Half kidding. Only half.  ;)

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Thought about it but in most shots it wouldn't be possible and mainly it isn't really necessary.

So if someone has some crazy suggestion they want to see done, now's probably a good time ;-)

I haven't seen any of the V2.0 workprints as I don't think I'd be qualified to make critical assessments of your work (ie. I'm easily pleased) and I really wanna watch it all in one go.

...but I do recall in V1.0 that in the "Look sir, droids" scene, the trooper on the dewback was stationary whereas he originally had a bit of movement to him (or, at least, to his staff).

I guess I'm just wondering if you were able to do anything with that at all this time around?

I just have to say thank you!  My 3 year old has finally started asking to see Star Wars.  Now I finally have something to show her.

Just got the next little part of the reference frames. If, as I'm hoping, they'll start coming faster now, this you'll be able to throw your parties soon, Puggo :-)

Also, nobody's commented on it, but I really LOVED the film lead-in and lead-out on WP3.  I know it's not practical in the regular stream because it would throw off GOUT sync, but maybe you could work in into the BD as one of those menu-driven transitional videos before and after the main feature.

I plan on bringing my copy of this to a Star Wars fan with an awesome home theatre and then lingering around a bit to see if maybe he wants to give it a spin.  Sure, I'll stay and watch with you!  He is not really aware of any of these preservation projects and only has a TR47 LD rip from many years ago.  I'm pretty sure I'll get invited back.

Man, I can't wait.  I've just got my old TR47's right now, and I haven't even watched them in a few years, because I just end up getting frustrated with the relative poor picture quality.

I have a weekly movie night with several friends, so I will definitely be bringing this once its released.  I have been keeping them up to date on all the preservation work, and they are very excited at the thought of being able to finally watch the OT again.

Someone should Photoshop those covers Harmy posted earlier so they make sense for the BD release (the first one, anyway.) Specs on the back need to be changed, it's no longer AVC-HD on a DVD, etc.

Harmy, could you post those again? I can't seem to find them.

There's a link somewhere a few pages back. And I'm working on a new cover for the BD release.

Oh, nice. I won't even bother with the old ones, then.

I'm thinking about using the 80's VHS style covers that someone posted a couple weeks ago - for the nostalgia.  Those are the ones I remember from when I was a kid.

Same here. It's not scaled to a Blu-ray box, but I'll just keep them in DVD boxes, I have more of those.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I can also redesign those to fit a blu-ray if I want.

I tried that but it's impossible to track properly, especially when the camera starts moving and things start changing perspective.

But you know what? I'll give it another shot!

You da man for even trying it again, Harmy! :)

Someone should make new full hub disc art for the BD release, too.

I can't do it myself because I am technically retarded.

Suggestions for what to fix?  That's easy.  The lasers during the Battle of Yavin!

There are many desaturated laser blasts during this whole sequence, and some also that are just the wrong colour altogether (blue exterior with a green core, instead of green exterior with a yellow core).  These are still present in the latest workprint, and with everything else looking amazing they stand out as wrong all the more.  I'm actually surprised no one else has pointed them out.

This partially falls under colour correction, so having reference frames with lasers in them would help, but even in the GOUT their hue and saturation level looks good, so you wouldn't have to wait to be able to take care of them.

I have a few that may have been brought up before:

1. During the opening word scroll, the whole star field seems to move a bit from side to side..from about :28 seconds to about 2:05. Then as the camera pans down, the star field is steady and stable.

2. At time stamp 2:59 and about 3:03, when there is a closeup of R2-D2, his color blue seems to be a bit more greenish than is his normal color throughout the rest of the movie(s).

3. When R2-D2 is to be attacked by the Jawas, from time stamp 11:30 to 12:35, the color/tint seem to be a bit greenish/off-tint, and perhaps a bit dull? This off-tint may continue to time stamp 14:32.

If these have been discussed before, and are part of the needed color correction, sorry, but I'm glad then that someone else sees it as well.

Love the newly brightened Tatooine scenes Harmy! You are doing a fantastic job!

I think the green tint in the desert, especially the early shots with the droids, is party due to them using a green/grey filter to achieve a day for night/twilight effect, when filming at those times wasn't practical, isn't it?  There's a whole mix of brightness conditions that aren't consistent for advancing day, depending on when they were able to film (sometimes in the bright of day with the cameras' iris almost completely stopped down, producing the odd glaring, somewhat blurry, unfocused effect.).

In the SE's one or more of the replaced sandcrawler shots shows it almost being twilight/ nightfall. A bit strange, because when they get to the farm it actually appears brighter and earlier, again. I guess they could have gone through a night period, then day and arrived at the farm almost a whole day later, but it's not obvious..

Harmy's version 1.0 doesn't have this greenish tint in it, and looks much better. I am attempting to show a comparison screenshot.

Were there others that also noticed the opening star field moving as well?

Had a long, long gushing post about WP31 (sounds like a droid!), but everyone has already said all that stuff.

My issue with the starfield is that it scintillates and shows some gate weave up until the pan down finises, then suddenly it's rock steady.  If you were to look away when it reaches that last frame of motion, you'd never notice, but it's a little distracting watching the whole shot through.

In the fly-over, as the ass-end of Devastator passes overhead, the ISD motion gets a little stuttery, similar to the pan across of the escape pod falling to Tatooine (yeah, I see it too).  Was the destroyer comped separately into a BG plate you did of the cleaned up stars and planet matte, Harmy?  wondering if there was some time stretch there to match which might explain it.  If so maybe another algorithm for the stretch or try a light motion blur on the ISD element?

Oh, and I'd be another vote for using the film lead as a menu transition to the main movie - that made me giddy it was so cool.  How about vintage trailers ahead of the feature, or the ESB theatrical teaser as well :)
