Brief review: I've already watched the AVCHD's on my LG BD-530 Blu-Ray player, they looked fantastic. I missed ANH's crawl line-by-line "twinkling" in the distance with the redone crawl, other than that - awesome. I had one dropout of signal during the ESB Luke-crashing-on-Degobah scene but that could just be because I haven't updated the firmware on my player ever. Also, restarting ESB and seeking to about the same spot resulted in no issue, so IDK...

Looking forward to seeing the next MKV/AVCHDs, the screenshot comparisons are looking phenomenal. Also: is the secret screengrab source Harmy is using from the rumored "Technicolor IB" print, or something else?

Sweet.

Thanks for all you've done so far Harmy!

PS. RiffTrax would be a great alternate audio stream on the BD version you're working on. ;)

So, I just went through 005's comparisons for SW, looking for stuff I may have forgotten to change back and I only counted about 10 shots that I'm not changing that aren't wipes. And those are all stuff like garbage matte removal or recomposites that look practically identical to the original.

That is good news.  Also, for the "missing frame" is it possible that the AviSynth "flow" solution you used for the cantina could be used to take it from "barely noticeable" to totally unnoticeable?  I haven't seen the corrected frames so I'm not sure how good it looks now.

All I can say is that there are at least 20 instances of this throughout the film to keep it in sync with the GOUT and this is the only one someone noticed.

Gotcha.  And I only noticed when someone pointed it out in advance ;)

So disappointed. I will never forgive you for the 4 seconds that you didn't break again. ;-)

i noticed in the desert when c3po turns around and says "no more adventures" the sky has been color corrected to match better with the other shots.  while i think it flows better was it that color originally?  i'm just curious, not saying you should change it back or anything.

by the way i love what you did with the colors when owen and luke are buying the droids.  i can see their faces much better.

i assume you will be releasing 5 other 2 gb reels?  lol...looks like i may need to buy another hard drive.

Where's my damn medal?

Hello Harmy,

I watched most of the workprint today and all I have to say is wow.  I was impressed, even with V1; but, I think - for the first time ever when watching Star Wars - it showed its age!  Now, I mean this positively of course.  Never before have I watched it and it actually looked like it was filmed in the '70s.  Suddenly it just feels like it belongs.  This color pallet you've created is simply phenomenal and words cannot express how eagerly I'm awaiting the rest of this workprint... let alone the final release!

And also, I don't know how often you applied the grain filter.  I thought you said only during the static grain problem-shots, but it seemed to be throughout.  Either way, I think it works and I love it.  There's not too much, but there's enough that Star Wars feels like a movie again.

A+ from bkev.

No, I really added the grain really only in those two scenes, and even there pretty selectively. The thing is that when you un-crush the blacks, more grain that was previously hidden shows up. And also compression eats up a lot of grain, so that's why this higher bitrate encode looks overall more grainy.

And yes, the sky was corrected to be closer to the way it was originally :-)

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

The star field looks incredible (although I cannot tell whether you restored the star field from the GOUT or revised the one from the SE)!  Either way it looks great.  God, I cannot wait for the next workprint.

ok harmy how did you do that?

looking for HDTV of the  Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

To be honest, it's not perfectly the same as the original, as it still has parts of the SE starfield, albeit muted. I simply reconstructed the original background from GOUT and put it under the SE footage from which I keyed out blacks.

What you, Harmy, could do is to encode the video stream using settings for BD compliancy. You can also take this video stream and mux it straight into mkv. You'll only need to make two encodes then, one for BD and mkv and the second one for AVCHD (both 2pass ideally).

If you want to use lossless audio then you'll be somewhat limited when it comes to formats. Bluray only supports LPCM, DTS-HD and TrueHD.

That's exactly what I was thinking about doing. I'll do the MKV (around 15GB for the video stream and with BD compliant settings) and then when I'm done designing the menus and putting together all the sound and subtitle files I want to include and possibly some bonus features, I'll just use the same stream for the BD.

Sounds great!. The AVCHD will be an appetizer :-)

Just for info. Is it going to include the BD foreing audio tracks and subtitles or just multiple english tracks?

Wow!  I honestly thought you had added it, I had no idea standard-definition had killed the grain so much on the 2004 DVDs.  Who knew the blu had so much grain?  I sure didn't.

Yeah, I'm gonna include various foreign dubs and subs on the BD :-)

Impressive!!

My SW GOUT R2 DVD includes Castilian Spanish & German.

Well you know, Sometime ago I gave you the spanish files for the separate downloads, if you want the german files too for your BD project let me know ;-)
