Not to nitpick, but if we are following the colors of the LD, that lightsaber is much too saturated.

As far as I've understood from lurking around here, the theatrical release featured way more vibrant lightsabers than what we've been subjected to ever since. Apparently, Luke's saber was never white in '77. Inconsistent, probably. But never completely desaturated.

@Tobar: Yes, to Frederik you listen! :-) I've seen a very reliable reference of that shot and the lightsabre was almost exactly this colour and so were the lights in the background!

@Cobra Kai: The brightening of the skintones was done on purpose but I'll have to go through it and apply it more selectively.

@Troy: Yeah, I'm not sure what colour the display is supposed to be, whether it was enhanced by Ady or it's an SE mistake.

The screen behind the trooper getting shot? It's Revisitedly enhanced, so the colors are new.

I have an Oppo BDP-93, which seems to be able to handle this format. Is this burnable to a disc though? Would I need a Blu-Ray burner?

mkv format that is. Meant to include a quote in my reply

Well, my new BD player plays MKVs and it plays them from DVD without problems. The thing is that the MKV will be around 15GB, so it won't fit on a DVD but I can also connect an external USB HDD to  y BD player and it plays MKVs from that too.

Alternatively, you could split the movie over two DVD9s. In MKV Merge, you can "link" the files, so when they're in the same folder, they simply play as one file, so if you wanted to play it from an HDD or burn to a BD you should have an uninterupted viewing and if you, like me, don't mind switching discs midway, you can burn it to two DVDs.

Are you brightening even more than was in the WP?  I thought the skin-tones looked great in that scene initially.  I'm just worried that it will get too bright, and the skin-tones will look unnatural as they do now.

Cool, thanks for the tips. I may get a Blu-Ray burner in the near future anyhow, so that would all be a moot point, but I don't mind switching discs either

That's good to hear, I was afraid I was gonna have to fix it, this way it just adds another advantage to having redone it.

Well, yeah. I'm not quite sure this aspect is correct in the GOUT either. I'm hoping to soon get some reliable references for every sequence, so I'm gonna go through the colours from the beginning and adjust them again. Nothing's final.

OK, thanks.  It just really jumped out at me last night, as I noticed mid-tones and shadows looked to bright and made the faces look weird in that particular setting.

BTW - I'm a little confused as to how you accomplished that shot of the Imperial officer getting shot, but it looks awesome!  What is your source?

The BD for the most part. For the missing frames a combination of the GOUT and ANH:R for the officer and the laserblast and an animated custom matte (made from several successive frames of the BD) for the background.

My BDP-93 plays AVCHDs and mkv's just fine.  Note that mkv is just a container format and if you put weird enough streams in it, it won't play.  I'm assuming Harmy's mkv would be fairly standard.  However I will probably choose to burn to Blu Ray regardless of what Harmy makes available, just because I like physical media.

Well, the thing is that the MKV will be released first (or possibly 2nd, right after the AVCHD DVD9). And the BD might come out later (and I mean weeks later) so for those who want to burn to BD it may be a good idea to DL the MKV and play it it from a USB or the AVCHD and burn to DVD and wait for the BD release (or possibly the decision not to release it - don't forget I'm still not 100% sure on that) to burn to a Blu-Ray disc.

I could just burn the MKV to a data disc and play it that way too, right? Like treating the Blu-Ray disc as a hard drive almost. What format would the data disc need to be in if so? I'd be using Toast

Just to verify, is this what you're planning?

1) Lower-bitrate AVCHD DVD9

2) Higher-bitrate MKV

3) Possible Blu Ray (same encoding as MKV, maybe with some extras)

I'm also assuming that, if I download the MKV, I could demux the streams and make my own barebones Blu Ray that I can live with until the fancy one comes out, and #2 and #3 would have the same video quality.

Is that how you see it happening (at least right now)?

Probably, yes. When it comes to encoding this, I'm gonna need some advice by some more knowledgeable members here to make sure everything is as it should be to be compatible.

LOL, we're already talking about the eventual release but haven't seen the second half of the WP yet! Let's put thing in perspective guys :)

I don't have a Blu-Ray player. I only own a regular DVD player which doesn't support AVCHD. Do you intend to make a simple DVD5 or DVD9 version ?

Thank you.

Is the bitrate  going to be the same as V1 on  the  AVCHD DVD9  for V2?

looking for HDTV of the  Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

Author
Time

Well, it stands to reason that with the same length and the same size, it will have to be more or less the same bitrate, yes ;-)

Just curious, but will the MKV release contain lossless audio of any form? Like 2.0 LPCM for the 93 mix for example. Either way, very much looking forward to this release.

Author

I thought about it. Possibly but I'm not decided yet. Maybe, similarly to what I have planned for foreign dubs, it could be available as a separate download that anyone can mux in themselves.

Please make a BD release, even if it is weeks later. Please, please, please.
