Harmy said this shot was a problematic shot to do. This is one that may not be prefect  but I did see the WP once and it looks very improve over V1.

Harmy I know you don't like to say when V2 is going to be finish but could you give us some ballpark figure? I hate to put it like this but the WP was like four play.  I am ready.:)

Troy.

ps  no ones laughs at my jokes.

looking for HDTV of the  Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

Yeah, free DL from RS is somehow really fast now and upload too, that's why I chose it in the end.

@builditup:

Thanks. I actually just did that and I must say even I didn't realize how much of a difference there was.

Check this out (v1.0 top v2.0 bottom):

I dare say the crushed blacks aren't even going to be an issue this time.

Harmy, that gridlike pattern across the bottom picture when opening in photoshop, especially visible when zooming in on the darker areas (or lowering contrast), what is it?

Fez: I am so excited about Star Whores.
Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.

Hmmm,.....don't see it......opened it in PS CS5

Sometimes a gridlike pattern appears due to video or jpg compression, which might be what you're seeing, though I don't see it in this case.

Oh wait a minute......if you max the brightness and ok it 4 times you can see it.....don't think my TV would go that far

OK, so this is what I did with this scene. I've been at it for quite some time and am honestly sick of it, so I hope everyone is ok with it looking this way:

Harmy, this looks very good, imo, and is a big improvement.  Well done.

Nice refinement of these shots Harmy. This must be driving you crazy but you are doing some great work!

I know Harmy.....its a hard one to call....but if you compare that scene to the one when Luke catches up with R2.....how warm the scene looks.....your new adjustments should blend in just right.....only watch out for skin tones.....have you considered duplicating the layer & masking the faces.....to reduce the yellow-ness there?

NB: not that I think you need to.....but if that was what was causing you concern

I've haven't said much in this thread, just been following along with great anticipation for V2.  Harmy, everything is looking fantastic, can't wait for the final and you're hard work into getting this done is beyond impressive.  Thank you so much.

I decided to shift the hue a tiny little bit, which seems to improve the skintones. I'll post some pics later :-)

That scene is looking AWESOME, Harmy! I know you are sick of it, but the improvement will definitely make up for it! :)

.......I'm gonna say it again......it gives me that 70's buzz.....i'm genuinely excited, didn't feel that way about the BD's and certainly not buzz'n about the 3D's.

I kind of liked the shot as it was in the second workprint... it was just about perfect. The new one looks a bit washed out and does a number on the flesh tones. Hopefully the hue shift took care of the problem.

Is there an ETA on the availability of v2?

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

Perhaps I'm alone in thinking this, but I find the orange sun in this latest example too dull.  The colour looks better than in work print #2 (leaning more to red than orange), but its vibrance just looks off... Compare (from 2nd work print):

That being said, if the latest attempt is closer in terms of theatrical accuracy, then I understand the need to go with it, it's just that I remember it looking brighter.  What source are you using to gauge the colour of the orange sun Harmy?

At any rate, I should end by saying that, whatever you decide to do will be a hundredfold improvement over what's on the Blu-rays.

Yeah, actually I think I'll have to redo that shot once more, I have a very good reason to believe the sun shouldn't be so orange, the shot shouldn't be this bright and it should have more of a purple cast to it.

Maybe... ;-)

Here's the result, it may look quite different from what you're used to but I'm quite confident it's close to how it should be:

Sun(s)set looks much better!

Harmy, the latest Luke meets Obi pics look better too, but now R2 is purple!

Yeah, that's another thing that should get better by shifting the hue slightly.

That almost exactly matches what it looks like in Puggo Grande, albeit not as faded or blown out. Since Puggo Grande comes from an 1977 16mm print, the remaining color information should reflect the original timing. Since your version looks very close to PG, I'd wager that you got it right.

And the lower sun finally looks correct; it's once again properly diffuse, the way the sun actually looks through the atmosphere, rather than the '04 where it looked like a big red dot pasted over the sky. :)
