Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 109

I've only been able to watch about a third of the workprint so far.

I'm no color expert, and the colors look pretty good to me. Maybe just a bit "flat" though, if that makes any sense - almost a little monochromatic. Could be my laptop monitor though. Plus, I've really only seen mostly desert scenes at this point in the workprint.

One thing I did notice is that when the Star Destroyer flies overhead, right at the moment of the huge blue flare in the SE, the starfield to the right of the Star Destroyer seems to warp a little.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

well what d'ya know? That backpack isn't an amorphous black blob after all! ;)

That shot looks great! A bit more detailed, more color-correct feeling overall, and the stormtrooper's backpack is not crushed black with blue/cyan tint anymore. Good job! :)

Btw, I haven't had the time yet to watch the whole WP but I did watch the end just because you said there was a surprise. Obi-Wan sure doesn't like Mos Eisley...

Anyway, something I noticed was that on the Mos Eisley matte painting, the color of the mountains doesn't match the shot just before it. I don't know how it is in the GOUT and other versions but just thought I'd let you know.

I have to say Harmy, that when it comes to the general look of your color correction so far I'm really digging it.  I know a lot of people have said the pallet is a smidgeon warm, but I personally prefer it that way and am of the opinion that is probably what it's supposed to look like.  Just adding my two cents.

why is there a stormtrooper head on the left on V2?

It looks to me like v1 was cropped a bit. V2 seems to have been less cropped.

I agree about the yellowish skin tones - bttfbrasilfan's "after" image looks better. (And I already noticed Leia's brown lips in the lightsaber fight test clips...it just doesn't look right to me.)

Hey Harmy, was the list of shots I thought inconsistent that I posted before at all useful to you? I'm wondering whether or not you want me to continue where I left off. If not, no worries, i've always got my own project to get back to. :)

BTW I watched most of the work print on my TV and I feel you've done a great job maintaining colour grading consistency, the inconsistent shots were far less noticable that they were on my monitor, I'm not sure I would have noticed them if I hadn't known about them earlier in all honesty. I also enjoyed how your colour grading gives Star Wars an 'older' more vintage feel. Great job!

Harmy, when looking closer on that shot-comparison there, I noticed something weird when looking at the mid-left part of the speeder.

It's like the image doesn't line up with itself in the second one.

Oh, yeah it's really hard to align the SE and the GOUT perfectly, because the GOUT is warped, so these things happen sometimes. You'd never notice it in movement (unless you were specifically looking for it of course).

@ OMEN: I did pick some things I want to fix from your list, so it was useful :-)

Ah, yes I understand that now. And you're right I would never notice it when it's moving, and I guess that's what really counts. I'd rather have such small unnoticeable things here and there than a big Ronto anyway. :)

Harmy, what font did you use to recreate the Lucasfilm logo? I think I could help you adjusting it in Photoshop. My reconstruction was good, but not so close because I used "Alte Haas" font.

I believe he used a 35mm film scan.  It's not a recreation, it's the real thing.

Harmy, everything looks great so far.  I'm not scrutinizing this as closely as others here, but I did just notice a very significant color shift at around the 8:20 min. mark.

The shot cuts away from Vader and when it cuts back to the last shot where he says "they'll be no one to stop us this time" the color has a little too much green:

It's most noticeable in the officer's flesh tone, but the whole shot has more of a "green tint" than the previous.

Yeah, that's the yellow skin tones I was talking about (IMG #2). Thankfully it will be corrected. It's more noticeable on Leia's close-ups because she's supposed to be with make up, you know...

I have only now been able to watch the workprint till the end, and I must tell you I LOVE your "new sound mix" :-)

Loving it overall!

I would repeat what others have said about the color; It seems sort of flat and yellow/brown. I think it needs more blue.

i am having a hard time downloading this mainly because i am using a public computer and it won't run jdownloader and the download keeps dying.

could you upload the work print to megaupload in 200 megabyte chunks?

i know i'm probably in the minority here but that ultzo.to site is just not working for me

Where's my damn medal?
