I think it’s a side effect of color correction, no ?

The RotJ Grindhouse is really atmospheric; there’s something very gritty about this, perhaps more so than TN1’s ESB. I’m curious about the dirt and scratches on RotJ, however: they mostly seem to be bright green. What’s the underlying cause of this?

I’ve been wondering about this too. It seems strange to me that they’d be any color besides black.

Pretty sure that the red blue and green are on the film in layers, so I guess if you scratch through the red and blue layers, all there’s left is green.

What Harmy said: it’s a deep scratch that’s scraped through the top protective layer and the magenta emulsion layer.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

While the resolution is often worthless, the nice thing about the 4k Blu ray standard is the increased color depth. Less banding is always good.

Yes, massively increased colour gamut and dynamic range make it worthwhile, regardless of how you feel about resolution increases.

Yes, emulsion scratches are usually green, can be other colours depending on the depth of the scratch, base scratches are usually white if clean, or black once they get dirt in them.

Ok. So there is an Empire Steikes back version out there somewhere. Does anyone have any information as to where I can find it?

Team Negative 1 has done a 35mm grindhouse scan of Empire Strikes Back. It is really done well despite some questionable colors.

If you were to download it, as always just make sure you have already legally bought the blu-rays for the films.

Ok cool. Do you have a link where I can fine it? I’m also looking for Harmys return of the Jedi grindhouse. If you have that as well that would be awesome!!!

ESB Grindhouse is on: myspleen, piratebay, a.b.starwars so you can take your pick. I think ROTJ is on myspleen & a.b.starwars, I just did a search and it wasn’t on tbp.

Are you able to send invites to myspleen? I have no idea how I can get one.

Not sure if that is some version of a joke. I would not recommend PM’ing anyone on here for an invite to MySpleen unless you were invited to do so by the person you are sending a PM to. It is not nice to spam PM’s to people.

JEDIT: Stryder you have a PM

You have to reciprocate. That way he knows you’re the real deal.

Yep. You’re not going to get invited to myspleen until you prove you’re not a cop by sending Frink a picture of your junk. This should probably be in a myspleen invitation tutorial, and stickied as a top post.

Just register on rutracker - that requires no invite. Plus it has a bunch of great stuff you won’t find on myspleen or piratebay there. There’s an english portal too @ en.rutracker.org

I think he tends to wait and do it in batches. It seems he usually waits until he get requests from about 10 different people.

Strictly speaking with regards to the 35mm sourced ESB Grindhouse without any Blu-ray footage, would a person honestly STILL be expected to specifically own a Blu-ray copy of the film? Certainly makes sense with Harmy’s work, which heavily uses Blu-ray footage, and to have a copy of the film that uses that source, you should own that source. But for something like this, wouldn’t owning any version of the movie do just as well, or, really, would owning it at all even be necessary, since there’s no true element used for this version that a person could realistically own? Just food for thought, really.

Well, the thing is the value added and that value, in the case of these grindhouse releases, compared to say VHS, LD, the GOUT or the 2004 DVD, is high definition and the only way to pay the copyrigth owner for that value is by buying the BD or the HD digital download.

In addition to what Harmy said (which I agree with), I’ll add my two cents on the issue. Our commitment to purchasing the Blu-Rays before downloading any of these edits/scans/whatever is a sort of a gesture of goodwill toward Lucasfilm/Disney. Kind of like, “Look, we know you guys (and Fox) own the stuff, and we want to support you, the owners, but we also want to enjoy these movies in different ways.”

This is put perfectly.

I agree, I have purchased the trilogy on every damn format, multiple times.

I think if you are going to watch it in hi-def, then at the very least go buy the Blu-ray.
You also then have a case to keep your disc in 😉

And a case to replace the cover with 😉

At that point, is it still the same axe, though? Wait, what are we talking about?
