Not sure what to tell you then. It’s the exact same tracks without re-encoding anything, muxed directly from the 2.5 mkv. If there’s a difference, I’m not sure what would account for it.

I suppose I could try again if an ISO file of version 2.7 becomes available. For the most part, I just use Power2Go. For Despecialized 2.7, I had to use ImgBrn.

Actually, the mono track is almost or entirely from a single source–an OTA TV broadcast. I think h_h modified the Fox fanfare at some point, but that’s it. The mono track hasn’t been changed at all in a very long time–I’d be very surprised if the 2.7 track wasn’t bit-identical to the 2.5 track. I tried an ill-advised attempt to merge with non-Dolby 35mm captures at some point, but it thankfully never made it into this project. My only guess is that maybe you’re hearing the lossy core of the lossless track this time, due to a DTS-MA decoder issue in the playback software. DTS-MA lossless mono is a bit of an odd fish–lots of software decoders have issues with it, even though it’s perfectly within the specs. So you might have a decoder that works fine for DTS-MA multichannel and dual-mono, etc, but fails on true mono.

Interesting. When I first listened to the mono track, I assumed what I was interpreting as seams in the audio was due to how they actually dubbed Beru’s lines. But later, a comment I read on the forum made me think it was just the reconstruction of the track. Guess I was wrong!

Hmm. Are you glossing over the tsmuxer (or other remuxing) step or have you actually been talking about the AVCHD? If the latter, it is still coming directly from 2.5. However, I assume of course that you are comparing 2.5 AVCHD to 2.7 AVCHD and not doing something silly like comparing the mkv of one to the AVCHD of the other. 😃

I am comparing the AVCHDs

I see. Well it is indeed lossy audio, then. But it should still of course be the same between 2.5 and 2.7 unless something in your process re-encoded.

For some reason, you guys talking about 3D ROTJ just reminided me of Anakin’s Eyebrows in 1.0. …Why?

Because they stand out?

Speaking of audio, the laserdisc commentary repeats a portion of itself in the last half hour of the film. Was this an issue in Despecialised or was it that way on the original laserdisc? That commentary is sparse enough, so hearing the same thing twice isn’t ideal!

The commentary was ripped from Laserdisc as a commentary-only track (no other audio), and can be merged into whichever audio mix you like. But that initial rip, how it came about, and if there were errors in the ripping process, or different versions for different LD pressings, I just don’t know. I think schorman did made the initial audio rip, but I’m not sure.

Thanks for replying, Catbus. That’s interesting nonetheless and hopefully somebody will be able to figure out where the error began someday. I can’t imagine there’s too many people who still have access to the laserdiscs now (although if ever there was a place where they might be, it’s here!)

Give me some idea of where you’re hearing a repeated section. I will check the version I posted to myspleen, but my suspicion is that this was not my version. I’ve upgraded the LD commentary tracks in the past, but I’m not sure the initiative was ever taken to replace what was in the Despecialized Editions. I can upload replacements if anybody wants them.

Ok, I found the repeated section mentioned above. My recollection is that this is how it appears on the LD, so that’s how it was prepared for the audio track. I will verify on my LD later this evening. I’ll also post updated ac3 files for all three despecialized editions, as well.

Which editions of the Laserdiscs have commentary tracks? I own 3 versions (Definitive Collection, Faces, and an older set I recently inherited). Granted, my wife would kill me right now if I added to the house clutter by dragging out and setting up an LD player…

Just the DC. No other Laserdisc release of anything Star Wars related has commentary.

Ok, I’ve checked a couple different pressings of the DC laserdiscs to see how they compare.

The repeated line occurs in ROTJ, first during Chapter 24 of Side 4 and again, with some other unique dialog preceding it, during Chapter 13 of side 5.
Results:

1st US Pressing:

Has commentary at both Side4/Ch. 24 and Side 5/Ch. 13 as presented in Harmy’s despecialized. The second half of the Side 5/Ch. 13 comments are repeated from Side 4/Ch. 24.

2nd US Pressing:

Has dialog only on Side 4/Ch. 24. The Comments during Side 5/Ch. 13 have been removed entirely, even the first half which was unique.

1st and 2nd Japan Pressings:

Has dialog as with both US pressings on Side 4/ Ch. 24. Comments on Side 5/Ch. 13 only include the first half of the comments as they appear on the 1st US pressing, meaning all comments are included and nothing is repeated.

To me the ideal way to present this would be as it appears on the Japanese discs. Does anyone have an opinion or comment on this? I guess I could just post both versions and people could decide which they prefer. 😃 I’m going to re-edit ROTJ before posting all three upgraded commentary tracks.

I have everything done, but I decided I shouldn’t post the links here directly. Anyone should feel free to PM me for a links. If moderators think it’s ok to post the link, I’ll do so, but I’ll err on the side of caution for now.

Will it be possible to have this corrected commentary on ROTJ: DE 3.0 (or whatever the next update number will be)?

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

I’d be surprised if it wasn’t. You’ll be waiting a while, though.

Could you imagine if studios could still get away with doing picture slideshows for their teasers? Haha

Well, you could take the Trainspotting 2 teaser trailer that came out a week or so back, which had zero new footage, in fact it was intended purely to announce that they were going to start filming that day… So no, it wasn’t still images, but containing nothing at all from the new film has to be, in a way, worse than stills if you were judging trailers on a scale… (not that I have a beef with Trainspotting 2, looking forward to it, actually)

Teaser trailer scale:

_________no new footage/info at all__________stills_________pre vis__________looks bad_____looks okay ___
