Hey Harmy,

Do you need someone to do the Return of the Jedi isolated music track?

Hey does anyone have any idea what is going on with this project. After working so hard on the first two movies I would understand if Harmy didn’t have time to do any more with this one but if there is a Bluray version being worked on I would love to know so I can complete my set, thanks.

My ratings for the Star Wars movies. EP1 4.5/10. Ep2 4.0/10. EP3 2.0/10. EP4 9.5/10. EP5 10/10 EP6 8.5/10 EP7 8.3/10.

Okay, thanks. Sorry for the dumb question, I have been out of the loop for a long time.

Hey Harmy,
At the end during the pyre scene when the camera pans up to the ships during the fireworks, some of them disappear or end up in weird spots in your WP. And some of the colors where it looks like you used a 35mm print the colors need some correction. Your WP so far looks a lot better than ROTJ 1.0. Great job.

I have tried to read through some of this thread, but I don’t understand much about this topic. My situation is this:
I have the MKV files for the first 2 movies on my computer. My computer has an HDMI out slot. I play one of the files in VLC on my computer, plug an hdmi cable into a receiver, which puts my computer screen on my tv. When the movie is played, it looks and sounds surprisingly good on my tv (surprising because I didn’t know how else to play these files on my tv, but noticed my old desktop does in fact have an hdmi slot).
So I am wondering if my method is not the preferred one, if peoples’ computers just don’t have hdmi slots, or if there’s some better way of doing this process?
And also, does anyone know off hand what the optimal settings would be in VLC and/or my receiver for playing this? On my test run I believe I switched the sound on VLC to 5.1, and my receiver to 7 channel audio. (btw this is not my receiver and tv, and I know little about this stuff).

As it seems I’ve been championing, outputting straight to your TV/receiver through HDMI is a great method until nicely polished BD versions are available. If you want to get the most out of this kind of setup, though, you’ll want to look into how to “passthrough” HD audio to the receiver. I’m not sure how adept VLC is at that, versus just decoding the audio itself, so I’d recommend looking up (I’m assuming you’re on Windows, here) how to do passthrough audio with players like MPC-HC and Kodi. At the very least for Kodi I know you have to change some settings in Windows to use WASAPI rather than directsound to properly passthrough the full HD audio track, rather than core DTS, or worse decoding locally. http://kodi.wiki/view/Windows_audio

While we’re still waiting on the full-sized MKV, it might be worth looking into free media server software like Plex and Serviio. I’ve been using Plex to look at the work print and I’ve been very pleased. When the higher quality version is available I’m definitely going to be putting it on a disc, but streaming the 6 GB version has been more than fine.

How can Joey make the right choice if he’s distracted by all this technical nonsense?

THANKS AGAIN to everyone for all your feedback on this technical mumbo jumbo!!! but i must say WOW because this is a bit humbling having all this talk about “lil old me”!

So heres what ive been up to…

I went and obtained a blu ray burner. For the record my laptop is super old and doesnt work (doesnt have an hdmi out anyway). Regardless, my preference is to put it on an old skool DVD!

Ive been busy all weekend trying to get “harmys-AVCHD rotj v1.0” onto a dvd-dl or BD-R. but to no avail (wasted 4 discs)! I even went back and started the process from scratch by going to theparadox and downloading the files again. Now my blu ray player is pretty vintage (at least 6 or 7 years old) and probably just does not read the hi-def dvd-dl. But does anyone now why it wouldnt be able to play the bd-r? im using jdownloader2 and then loading into imageburn and then burning. is there a conversion step im missing? thanks for reading.

Regards, joey

One thing I’ve been concerned about for a while is that you often mentioned AVCHD, should we take it that you’re trying to burn the ~7GB AVCHD versions of all the films? (since you mention jedi 1.0, you’re obviously doing this for at least one of the three) Since you went through the expense of getting a full-on Blu-ray burner and you’re not sure whether your player supports AVCHD (not all do), then it would be best to now focus on getting the full quality MKVs for SW and Empire (and wait for Harmy to put out his v2.0 of Jedi), and then use TSMuxer (as often discussed here) to make playable Blu-ray ISOs you can burn to recordable single layer Blu-ray discs. This method should yield the best compatibility and also give you the best image and sound.

Joey, Yoda-Sama is right on point.

  1. download the .mkv file
  2. run through tsmuxer (a free program) to create a blu-ray iso file
  3. burn the iso file to a disk

  1. Google TxMuxer (for Mac or Windows, whichever you need; it’s free and safe)
  2. Drop the .mkv file into the “input” box at the top
  3. Select “create Blu-ray disc” at the bottom. Don’t touch any of the other options!
  4. Click “start muxing.” You’ll end up with an .iso file
  5. Burn the .iso to a Blu-ray disc.

Get tsMuxeR HERE:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=168539

DL’ing it from some random site can be risky depending on which site you use. Lots of them bundle garbage, spyware, and viruses along with “free” software. The DL on the Doom9 forum is definitely safe (and tsMuxeR itself is also safe and adware free).
