But from what you are saying I’m better off downloading the MKV? What do you mean by a more reliable file integrity?

Hi SteveE,

Oh no, that’s not what I’m saying at all! Any of the official versions from Harmy and NJVC are awesome!

What I’m saying is that whatever format you choose, it’s probably safer to get them from the links you can access through the guides I’m pointing you too. That way you know nobody else has tampered with the files you are getting.

If you choose to get them from demonoid or some other torrent site, the files you get may have had changes made to them, perhaps lessening their quality, leading to extraction errors, or hiding unwanted software.

I’m referring to the unreliability of torrents rather than any issues with different formats.

Here are those guides again:

The Ultimate Introductory Guide (TUIG)
This will give you step by step instructions on how to aquire the DE’s as well as lead you to the

Multipart RAR Download Links
which have lists of the links you need for the rars to the DE’s.

Or if you go to
NJVC Custom Bluray Set…
it will lead you to both instructions and download links for that custom blu-ray set.

[Editor’s Note: Our friend Petr “Harmy” Harmáček, who some of you may know for his fine Star Wars Despecialized efforts, worked on the visual effects for Blade Runner 2049 at UPP in Europe and confirmed to us that they were done in full native 4K resolution. Chris McLaughlin, CG supervisor at the project’s VFX lead Double Negative, says they delivered their VFX at 3.4K.]

Holy shit.

For some reason, Harmy’s low profile on this reminds me of Nikola Tesla (in film):

The first time I changed the world, I was hailed as a visionary. The second time I was asked politely to retire. The world only tolerates one change at a time. And so here I am. Enjoying my “retirement”.

a request for some assistance with Despecialized from Harmy…

Harmy said:

Guys - I could use some help - I remember some time ago, someone was working on a shotlist for the SW movies and I can’t find it. But what I’d really need is someone helping me catalogue all the shots that need despecializing and making a system that will make it easier for me to keep track of the shots and what they need done.
My idea is this table, where I could keep track of the progress on all the shots:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NwFnvrRp3CnyDOdr9W1__8PLBGwH8WOKkl8mjke8LQs/edit?usp=sharing

So, would I find volunteers, who would help me by going through Doubleofive’s galleries and putting all the shots down in this table and looking them up in GOUT and BD and putting in the timecodes?

When this is done and I start working on v3.0, the plan is to keep the table public, so you guys can check on my progress and every once in a while, when all shots in a sequence have status Pending Final, I want to post the sequence as a work-print and only after I get positive feedback on it, I will mark the shots as final.

This will make you guys more involved again, like in the old times, and it should help keep me more motivated. 😃

Please send him a PM if you can help…

Sadly I was simply congratulating Harmy on getting work on such a prestige film. I know better than to try and joke around here when my possible accidental attempt at humour is twice re-written and bested in quick succession 😉

Funny I’d drop in to catch up on this thread after checking out Blade Runner 2049 at home and leaving a 4.5/5 star rating on letterboxd.

Let me toss my congratulations on the pile. I LOVED the film, and I’ll treasure it even moreso knowing this now! Grinning ear to ear for you, Harmy!

I followed the Google Doc’s ulozto instructions to a T and I was able to download SW and ESB just fine. I went with the smaller, 8 GB files because I wanted to put them on DVD. I was able to change the video file’s quality with any-video-converter so they would fit on the blank disks. However, whenever I download and extract RotJ, it will give me a message reading “ERROR: INCORRECT PASSWORD OR CORRUPTED FILE” and refuse to let me view the STREAM video. I used “harmy” as the password, and anytime I use something different (like HARMY or Harmy) it will just tell me the password is wrong without bothering to extract it, so my only conclusion can be that it’s corrupted. I found another source for 2.5 on Reddit that works fine on my laptop, but I can’t reduce the video quality like I did with the other two when I put it on DVD. It just changes the ratio and makes it look all smooshed. Does anyone have a quick way to download the smaller file of 2.5? Or better yet, does anyone have a download they’d be willing to share that has all the subtitles taken out and the quality DVD ready? I found one such source for the latter on Reddit that was about 2 1/2 GB, but the link had been taken down. I contacted our lord and savior Harmy but I haven’t got a response from him, but he’s a busy man and he’s working in Hollywood now so I understand completely. I just want some RotJ, you know?

Assuming your problems are with the AVCHD (approx. 8 GB) release of RotJ, then you should find a checksum utility inside the directory. Hopefully this small program hasn’t been corrupted. Let me know if it has, and I’ll PM you a link to it. Have you tested the checksums of the ISO and MDS files against those provided in section 6 of the Ultimate Guide?

If the checksums match, all I can suggest is that you try a different extraction program. I use 7zip and have extracted all of Harmy’s stuff without problems.

If they don’t match, then go to the individual rar files you downloaded, obtain a SHA-1 checksum for each one, and PM me the details. I’ll compare them with mine and let you know which rar file(s) is corrupt. With a little luck you might have more success downloading the problematic file second time around. Otherwise, I shall stick it on Mega for you.

That’s great advice and I’ll follow it the best I can when I’m back with my laptop but I’m not 100% on what you’re talking about with checksums and all that. I’ll go into the file and try to figure it out but I’d appreciate it if you could explain this to me like I’m 5

I’ll PM you a link to the checksum utility along with further details.

I have a problem with the 2.5 mkv version. First I downloaded it and part 15 was corrupted. I re-downloaded everything and now part 9 is corrupted instead. What can I do to solve the problem?

Author
Time

Have you tried either of the following?

  • Use part 15 of your second download with all other parts of your first download
  • Use part 9 of your first download with all other parts of your second download

Checksums for the final mkv file are as follows:
MD5: BB61CFE99632010CDD13BA8F5CEFD35A
SHA1: B4F94227497D4C983F90CF03ED7BC084A1CA51F1

Let’s take it step by step.

First, are you using the official uloz.to links provided in the guide at the link below?:

https://goo.gl/5Sif60

If so, what method are you using to download them?

Do you know how to compare checksums? I have SHA-1 checksums of those rars when they are confirmed working. I can send you that info via PM if it would be useful.

If all else fails, I have alternative mega.nz links to any of the parts to the ROTJ 2.5 MKV that I can also PM you if you like.
