Well, I am impressed, I was giving your 2.6 a watch and thought: " This looks really good!"
Then I watched the 2.5 a bit to compare. Then I thought “Hell, I got duel screens here let’s watch both
side-by-side!”
This scene really caught my eye!
Keep up the great work!
I thought I recognized your foul stench when I entered this forum!
I would love to download this, but I don’t like reencodes. Do you have access to Harmy’s RAW files in the near future Towne?
Wait, what? Tell me you didn’t use v2.0 for that shot! Otherwise I can’t imagine why tat R2 unit isn’t blurry, when that was a side-effect of the effects used in the shot, so he’s blurry very much intentionally from v2.1 onward.
Plus, of course, v2.0 uses the GOUT, whereas v2.1 (and 2.5) use 35mm scan.

Well. That was an accident. When i fixed the dewback shot I think I looked at the end of the shot and the two R2 units and assumed the clearer shot was 2.5.
Fixed it after reading DL’s post about it. Can give the fixed version to anyone interested. Otherwise, when I get the lossless 2.5 discs from marvins and encode the higher quality version it’ll be fixed.
So 2.0 was a gout/bd hybrid? That explains the droid’s clarity
If anyone spots more problems, let me know. Sorry for the final release not being final.
Sorry for the final release not being final.
Yeah, that happens 😄

Especially great when there are 4 versions of the release. 😉
But the branching disc didn’t seem to be as popular as I thought. So I’ll probably skip that next time.
Awaiting the updated version then 😉
Btw I noticed something while watching 2.6. At 01:50:26 just when it cuts from the shot of the TIE-fighter to the X-wing, it looks like the motion of the TIE is frozen just before the cut. Tried to go frame-by-frame in MPC but no frame seems to be repeated (not sure if mpc advances 1 frame at a time though?) Am I imagining this here?

Below is my post from the Spleen Comment sect:
"Looks like more going on in these screens than just color correction!
The frame seems zoomed or cropped slightly and the sharpness much better.
Note the R2 droid in the foreground."
I decided to repost here just to get some feedback.

Thanks for the feedback. This is actually exactly what we were talking about today in this thread. The issue is that the shot was used from the wrong version of Harmy’s. So, the droid looks better because it came from the blu-ray. It actually never looked like that in the original version. But, the rest of the shot, especially the speeder, looks worse even if the droid looks nice. 😃
But you’re absolutely right that more is going on than just color correction in general (though it shouldn’t have for that shot). Some 35mm shots were cleaned up and included. The majority are probably things I could have done without (and a lot of people don’t like the 35mm explosions it seems). But I’m very happy with the way the shot of Luke walking to the X-wing turned out, as well as the falcon ‘peeling off’ as I think Mike Verta titled that shot.
Awaiting the updated version then 😉

This is bizarre.
Yes, the same thing happens in VLC. And no, there are no frames missing or repeating. Interestingly, the ANH MKV has the glitch occur between the previous two shots (Vader firing and the tie fighter) but the tie to the x-wing shots are smooth.
Not really sure what’s going on here. A bitrate jump that is not favorable? There are no errors there in the BD format release, which was encoded from the same master with different bitrate settings.

Well, it depends if that shot bothers you or not I guess. There’ll be other tweaks since I can’t seem to leave this alone. 😃 (for example, the shots of C3PO by the pod arguing with R2 were a bit too blue before).
The other benefit of doing another render will be having Harmy’s lossless files, instead of the lossy ones used before. I can cut the bitrate down to what Harmy normally uses and have it look as good. This will save people a tiny bit of bandwidth/space on their re-re downloads as well as hopefully prevent the weird playback issue we have been discussing.
I’ve got Harmy’s 1997 files from him (thanks again). I am getting the 2.5 files on discs in the mail from a member. Depending on customs, etc, it could be a while before I’ve got them. Which is actually good, as it will allow me you guys to spot additional issues. Plus, I’ve already sort of spammed myspleen with the previous release in 4x formats.
Again, sorry for the trouble and use of your bandwidth. The 2.6 release that’s up should be 100% watchable, though. I might not upload the update to the spleen, and just use filesharing sites to share it with you guys who know about these issues and want a fix. Not sure.

I think we were going to have to anyhow! I read earlier that Towne32 was going to acquire the
Master files from Harmy and do color correction from them. Then of course there’s the dreamt of v3.0
in our future.
I don’t mind the downloading but, trying to seed a version that no one wants anymore just makes my Ratio that much worse! I seem to have a bad habit of doing a big download just before the NEW version comes out! LOL

Bizarre indeed! Just read that the new version will be encoded from the lossless source-files and I assume that will eliminate error 😃 Lucky thing I haven’t burned 2.6 to a disc yet!
Any sneak previews of those new tweaks mentioned? 😉 Or just any info on planned tweaks? (Apart from the
pod shot mentioned above that is.)

Any ETA on the new version towne32? I already fixed the speeder shot in my version, but I’m thinking if it might be worth it to wait for the new version for the increased quality.

I think the person is planning on sending the discs soon, though they seem a bit busy. So however long it takes to get some BD discs from Europe to the US. On the other hand, Harmy seemed to get the 1997 files online with relative ease and I had them downloaded within a day. But I hate to bug him and wouldn’t want the other person to have wasted their time if they already burnt discs (I am not sure that they have), especially since the very good idea of using the lossless files was his idea.

I could do some comparison images again. Maybe compared to 2.6 this time. They’re very minor and mostly based on Darth Lucas’s observations. Although many of the shots are ones he also changed, the changes are much smaller in every case.
Pod bay scene was made less blue.
Mos Eisley tweaks were minor. I took the magenta shift out of that first 35mm entrance shot. But then it seemed way too cold, so I put most of it back. 😃 The closeup of Obiwan during the Identification speech had a little red removed, but I don’t agree that the whole scene is too magenta. Used the 2.5 shot discussed earlier today.
Turned down the blue very slightly in several scenes:
When the troops scramble just after the falcon lands at the Death Star, and during Vader’s “I want every part of this ship checked” speech. Han’s ‘boring conversation anyway’ shot. Before and after Han runs into the despecialized hallway of stormtroopers. One shot early in Luke/Leia’s bridge scene that was very blue, even for the already blue scene. Tarkin on his intercom before the diamond wipe to the Yavin briefing. The battle of Yavin is the same except for the two scenes with Vader on foot in the Death Star and two shots of stormtroopers blowing up. Blue was turned down on those as well. All of these shots still have blue sets and none of it would have been noteworthy enough for a release if it wasn’t for the other issues.
I’d be happy to uload the lossless files for you but I won’t be home before Monday.
I’m glad to see thos sort of pay it forward attitude working here - I sent the BDs with the lossless files to Laserschwert for his German version, he sent them to Marvins for the French version and now the chain continues - but for sending files overseas, it’s almost always faster to send them online.
Also, to avoid confusion, it may be best to simply call the next version v2.7.

Thanks on both accounts. I hate to increment the version number based mostly on stupid mistakes. I’ll pitch the main idea as being from lossless files, then. 😉
Thanks, Harmy. If you don’t mind then I’ll tell Marvins thanks anyway for the offer. He and Laserschwert were both kind enough to message me about the matter. And I’ll be happy to do similar, but I don’t know why I would need to. One thing I can do, if anyone still wants it, is encode a BD compatible copy of Respecialized 97.
Is that Tusken Raider at 28:42 supposed to be animated backwards and forwards like that?
EDIT: Oh yes he is, I’ve checked the SSE. Never mind.

I’d appreciate it if you could upload an MKV of 2.7(or whatever you choose to call it) to the Spleen when it’s done because I’ve found that’s the best way to share these big files. Thanks again for all of your efforts on this release. 😃

Ok, cool! Colors looked really good in the last release but I guess there’s always
room for improvement 😉 Thanks for taking the time to keep working on the little details.
Will keep an eye out for other oddities but apart from that frozen TIE fighter everything
just looks pretty damn good!

Just throwing this out there, but I like the SSE explosions 😃
