Happy Birthday John Williams!

Interesting that the MST3K website, Sattellite News mentions it, (yes, even Mr. Williams has a cheesy movie skeleton in his closet) but not the official SW site.

Where were you in '77?

Happy Birthday Mr. Williams! I celebrated by listening to the score of the original Star Wars film while doing my homework. It's amazing what a grand score that is. If I didn't know it was from a film, I would guess it was from the era of classical musicians like Motzart and Beethoven. It's just to grand in some places to be a movie score. John Williams is one of the best composers alive because to this day he still writes excellent, quality film scores. Few have carreers that long, extensive, and continually good. Happy Birthday!

does anyone think his score for Indiana Jones IV will be good?

I love his scores for the Harry Potter movies and hook.

Some of my faves are:

the star wars trilogy scores(original not special edition)
Superman 1
Jurassic Park
jaws
raiders of the lost ark, temple of doom, and last crusade.
e.t.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I worry about the Indy IV score. Most of his post 1980's work has been too serious and arty. I know how bad that sounds.

I just like a simple rousing score with lots of memorable themes...he doesn't seem to rely on thematic motifs too much lately, although ROTS was pretty good.
