Hello OT Community I’ve been trying to re-edit solo into something that aligns a bit more with the OT as well as remove some cringe. Here are my thoughts and I would love for this to be an open discussion to see if we can solve some of these story beats together.
Less Backstory
We open with Han jump starting the speeder but cut right to Han and Qira escaping in the speeder. Chase scene plays out the same for the most part. Qira is captured, Han joins the Empire, Han Solo says his name cut to title.
Han Meets Chewy
There encounter is quicker and has no wookie speak. No shower scene.
Heist Scene
Stays the same for the most part.
Meeting with Dryden Vos
Qiras introduction is less cheerful and is interrupted by Beckett.
Recruiting Lando
Cut down on some of Landos cringier dialogue with Han. Removed Enfyst Spy. Reduced L3s Dialogue. Break into shipping yard. See Falcon. Cut to Beckett and Chewie playing holo game. Han & Qira Closet Scene. Beckett warns Han about Qira.
Kessel Heist
Dropping out of hyperspace, L3 and Qira talk about the Malestrom. Landing sequence with plan being dicussed, No dice exchange, Reduce L3 dialogue and removed droid rebellion. No screaming grenade throw. Less dramatic L3 death, L3 does not get plugged into the falcon, escape empire, encounter monster, use the Maw to slingshot them out, Monster and injection lines really slow the pacing (this stuff is going to blow)
Saverine Station
They land safe and unload, Landos not happy, Han talks with Qira about leaving with him and how Crimson Dawn is dangerous to cross, just before shes about to say hes the good guy, Beckett interrupts them saying they can wait for the refinement up the hill.
NO ENFYST rebellion
I find that it doesn’t add much to the film, we already know the “CRIME SYNDICATE” is bad. We see Dryden straight up kill a dude that didn’t fulfill his end of the bargain. We don’t need the movie to show us more reasons why they are bad and why these people chose to rebel, leave that to the empire.
If i kept this in all it does is turn Han into his ROTJ self where he has already decided to help a cause greater than himself. Without Enfyst, he crosses Dryden to help free Qira and we see how that turns out.
The Double Cross
Cut to the ocean and chewie and beckett waiting around, Han tells them they can’t give it to them, Beckett says not to cross Dryden, Han asks for Becketts help to pull it off, Beckett leaves (finding a great opportunity to slip out of this situation and fake his death during the job), The rest of the crew goes along with the plan, Qira tells him its not a good idea, Han says she’s wrong and that they will win, Qira says its just about surviving, They talk with Dryden, They get found out, Beckett is revealed to have given them up, Enforcers go to the refinery to get the “real coaxium”, Qira and Dryden talk about loyalty, Enforcers realize that its empty, Leaving Dryden exposed.
What Happened to Lando?
I’m having trouble inserting the scene where Lando takes off. Ideally it would happen about here where the enforcers are coming to the refinery and Lando takes off. Trying to think of any other ways it would fit. I tried after Han and Lando talk where he’s so upset that he leaves but, it’s not like he would leave before getting paid? Any suggestions would be awesome.
Final Confrontation
Beckett takes out the guards and takes chewy, Han and Dryden face off. Qira kills Dryden, Tells Han to go save chewy. No kiss, no talk of money for their ship, no cringy smile line, just a longing glance as the door closes, Qira talks with Maul. Hot take but I prefer him using his lightsaber as he is threatening Qira if she should fail like Dryden did. Han shoots Beckett, Qira flys away, Han gets big sad with chewy.
Lando Rematch
Now, since Enfyst and her rebellion are not in this i need a work around for the fact that they have all the coaxium now and not just the vile. Somehow make the interaction with Han and Lando work with the new story because i really like there conversation of leaving them stranded and Han notices the card and swipes it before the play another round. It’s the ending where I’m struggling to get these last peices to all fit around the fact that Enfyst is not there.
Qira and Han Romance
I try to dial back as much kissing and romance with them as I can mostly because I can’t stand him loving anyone but Leia but there is infatuation there you can tell he really cares about her.
Thats mostly what I’ve done so far. I’d love to get some discussion going on this topic mostly because I thought the idea of a solo movie without Enfyst in the finale sounded more compelling and nothing against the actress herself, I just didn’t find a teenager intimidating. But I would really appreciate any feedback or ideas of any kind even if you disagree, who know maybe you’ll change my mind.
