Halloween (the holiday, not the movie)

Growing up, Halloween was my favorite holiday. Still is really, but for a variety of stupid life reasons I hadn't had a chance to celebrate for several years (other than possibly going to clubs on Halloween night itself) nor had I done anything to decorate my house.

Until last year! Thanks to the joys of the internet I discovered all the great websites of people who did their own 'home haunts'. And I got inspired... *real* inspired! So I busted arse for a few weeks before Halloween, enlisted my mom for help and created my own yard haunt!

I finally got around to putting pics of it up on a website which you can check out here:

http://bellsouthpwp.net/g/r/GreenCapt/Halloween/

(please check back later if the link says I've exceeded bandwidth... dang free sites)

What I'd like to know is- what do all of you (if anything) do for Halloween and do you have any pics to share?

Also, for ideas for decorations, etc check out this site:

http://www.halloweenmonsterlist.info/

which is where much of my inspiration came from!

Let us not forget the great holiday of Halloween Too. This is always the first saturday after easter. It's just like Halloween but it's the first saturday after easter. Two years ago we started this because my friends and I can't get enough Halloween in our lives. So we got dressed up and went out the bars. It was fun but there was only 12 of us the first year. This year we had a group of about 50 people with us as well as people in Florida, Washington, and California who all went out to celebrate.

So remember if you don't get enough Halloween in a few weeks. Just wait six months.

I don't *dislike* Tootsie Rolls, mind you, but they ARE the bastard child of halloween candy. They're the candy that makes you think- "cheap-ass couldn't by some Hersey's minis or anything by Reese's..."

DAMMIT! I just remembered this will be my first Halloween with BRACES!!! Curse you bad teeth!!!

Warbler - It's never too early to talk about Halloween.

Capt - My favorite holiday as well. Your site exceeded its bandwidth. I wasn't able to check out your stuff.

Dayv - I would have killed for a bag full of Tootsie Rolls as a kid. My fave candy.

Halloween was definitely my favorite holiday as a kid. I lived in a very small neighborhood next to a major state road with many houses on it, but my father was paranoid about me going on it, so I was stuck in my neighborhood and relative's houses. I outgrew it around 12, I think. Then, a few years later my friend convinced me to go out with the "older" kids, which was cool, then I did the teenage halloween get together deals and haunted houses, followed by trick-or-treating with my girlfriend/fiance at the time. Now, my wife usually takes the kids while I stay home and hand out candy. We just moved from an almost zero kid neighborhood to one that we hear can produce about 200-250 kids per Halloween, so we need to get ready.

A big part of my affinity for it, I think is that I come live in the American North East, and that time of year is the best time of year for us, with the beautiful Autumn colors, cool breezes (but not too cool), and knowledge that the family holidays are right around the corner.

I'd have to say that I believe the true bastard child of Halloween candy is candy corn.

Lewis Black:

"Candy Corn is the only candy in the history of America that's never been advertised. And there's a reason. All of the candy corn that was ever made was made in 1911."

I love Tootsie Rolls, and I love candy corn! I don't care what Lewis Black said (I was hoping to reply before someone brought that up), candy corn is THE best candy ever. I would kill for candy corn right now.

When I was younger I ate a whole pound of candy corn. I was about a hyper as when I did coke.

I can't touch the stuff now.

Hopefully by later today I'll have the bandwidth problem dealt with ... but maybe not.

Back to candy, I *almost* mentioned candy corn. Again, I've eaten it and even told myself I enjoyed it.. but that may just be desperation speaking. I don't think I really ever tried a circus peanut though I've always been curious about them.

So does anyone else deck out their yards/houses?

Now I want some candy....

Halloween...no one really cares for it in the UK.
Yeah we have trick or Treat....but not to the level you guys go to.

When I fisrt saw ET as a kid, and they had the Halloween scene, that was trhe first time I realised that us Brits don't give two hoots about it.

Shame!!

No... they're still good. It's been a while since I've had them, though.

I won't say it's the best, but I do enjoy Candy Corns.

I always thought the bastard red-headed stepchild of Halloween candy was Double Bubble. Cheap as hell and the flavor is gone as soon as it enters your mouth. You can't even bite into it and the flavor is gone.

You're right. Double Bubble sucked. Actually, I consumed a lot of it. For the moment that it does have flavor, it's a pretty good flavor. It's hard as a rock, though, and requires superior jaw muscles to put it in a condition that is suitable for blowing bubbles. For real fun for the really brave, try about four pieces at once.

we should go into the Wal-marts, remove all the decorations and the people who decided to put the decorations up should be put up into deep dark dirty pits, for a very long time.
